DFID will support the establis...hment of sustainable sanitation and water supplies for up to 7.5 million poor and vulnerable people. Its main emphasis is sanitation, reflecting the fact that for every person lacking access to safe water, three lack access to appropriate toilets. Sanitation will be complemented by improved water supplies in water scarce areas. 1,500 schools and health care facilities will also be targeted by Water, Sanitation and Hygiene interventions to maximise the project's impact, especially its impact on women and girls. The project will be implemented in rural areas in low and lower-middle income countries, primarily targeting a number of Least Developed Countries in chiefly in sub-Saharan Africa and South /South East Asia, characterised by poor access to sanitation.

The Democracy Human Rights and... Governance Learning, Evaluation and Research (DRG-LER II) award continues to advance learning, evaluation, and research within the DRG sector as well as provide critical data on the impact of USAID's DRG activities in the field. Findings from this activity support USAID Mission project evaluation goals and the implementation of the DRG Learning Agenda - an effort to build empirical evidence that tests the theories of change guiding USAID's DRG projects. The Learning Agenda informs future programming choices by DCHA/DRG and the worldwide cadre. DRG-LER II also contributes to USAID's unique role as the leading bilateral donor for DRG activities worldwide. .

Through its Reconciliation and... Inclusion portfolio, USAID/Colombia's Overcoming Gender-based Violence Activity (OGBV) strengthens local and national institutions, as well as civil society organizations, to improve prevention, attention, and protection measures for victims of GBV. To do this, the OGBV activity will conduct a series of surveys related to institutional capacity and social tolerance towards GBV at three points during the five-year period. Data gathered through the survey process will inform awareness campaigns to address cultural standards that normalize violence against women and girls, as well as technical assistance provided to public institutions and civil society organizations within the attention and protection routes for GBV victims. This activity is implemented at the national level as well as in the departments of Meta, Cauca, and Antioquia where rates of violence towards women are significantly higher than the national average. The overall goal of the activity is to diminish national rates of GBV through data-driven awareness campaigns and by leaving in place sustainable and functional institutions and organizations within the attention routes for survivors of GBV.

The Ushindi activity addresses... sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) in eastern DRC through a holistic approach to assist survivors of SGBV and engage communities in long-term attitude change. Ushindi covers a population of 1.3 million in 10 health zones to: 1) provide SGBV survivors with quality, age-appropriate medical care, psychological counseling, and legal support; 2) improve communities' response to SGBV in order to facilitate rape survivors' recovery; 3) improve survivors' social integration and economic recovery; and 4) strengthen individuals' and community-based organizations' ability to prevent SGBV.

To survivors, the activity will offer more accessible community-level services and re-engineered one-stop centers (Ushindi Houses) designed to be wholly owned and sustained by the communities and the government. Furthermore, the activity will provide needed relief for survivors, offering myriad mobile and static legal services and family and reproductive health services to help them (and communities) recover. The activity works closely with complementary USAID partners to enhance program impact, reach, and cost effectiveness.
