New Partnerships Initiative: E...XPAND (New Partners for Better Health)
more
|
New Partnerships Initiative (N...PI) EXPAND (New Partners for Better Health) is a five-year (2019-2024), $43.9 million global project with the goal of working with missions and organizations to increase the availability and utilization of quality health services across all USAID priority health areas. NPI EXPAND will catalyze opportunities to scale up innovative interventions by strengthening the capacity of New and Underutilized Partners (NUP) with varying levels of capabilities and exposure to USAID. In line with the Journey to Self-Reliance, NPI EXPAND will support countries to identify and strengthen local organizations to participate fully in their local health system. New Partnerships Initiative will increase USAID s development impact by elevating local leadership, fostering creativity and innovation, and mobilizing resources across the Agency s programs. 1. Strengthen the organizational sustainability of new and underutilized local entities or locally established partners: Targeted countries will advance their self-reliance through a strengthened cadre of NUPs that are ready to meet the needs of the underserved. The activity will support NUPs to increase their managerial, financial, and administrative capacities to enhance their ability to not only receive direct support from USAID but also be more engaged partners within local health systems. 2. Expand utilization of high-quality, high-impact health services, information and supplies expanded: Participating NUPs will contribute to enhancing the supply and utilization of high-quality, integrated health services, with a focus on reaching underserved populations. NPI EXPAND supports this evolution by fostering the technical skills of providers, the expansion of services offered, quality assurance systems, and introducing cost-effective demand creation techniques that can be integrated in the service delivery setting. 3. Increase sustainability of promising and innovative health approaches scaled-up through new an

New Partnerships Initiative: S...COPE (Strengthening Community Health Outcomes through Positive Engagement)
more
|
The Strengthening Community He...alth Outcomes through Positive Engagement (SCOPE) project is a five-year, $28 million award under the New Partnerships Initiative (NPI) which aims to address key drivers of child and maternal morbidity and mortality at the community level in four priority countries (Haiti, Kenya, Malawi, and South Sudan) and to contribute to the ultimate goal of preventing child and maternal deaths (PCMD) within a generation. SCOPE's objective is to increase the utilization of reproductive health services for women of reproductive age and increase utilization of primary health care services by children under five years with a focus on increasing demand for a) voluntary family planning and healthy timing and spacing of pregnancy, b) maternity care, c) postpartum and essential newborn care (ENC), and d) timely and appropriate treatment of child illness. The SCOPE project will leverage key delivery mechanisms at the community level in the four focussed countries to implement interventions aimed at shifting behaviors and strengthening community-based services. This includes community health workers (CHWs), various community groups (care groups, savings groups, etc), faith-based institutions and faith actors. The project will also utilize social accountability mechanisms and work with local partners to achieve project objectives.

Research for Scalable Solution...s (R4S)
more
|
The overarching purpose of R4S... is to strengthen generation and utilization of evidence to increase access to voluntary family planning and improve healthy timing and spacing of births. In order to achieve this purpose, R4S supports two key areas of work: 1) research to answer priority implementation science questions, and 2) technical assistance to build capacity for data analysis, evidence synthesis, and adoption of evidence-based practices. R4S has three key results areas: Result 1: Expanded development, adoption and implementation at scale of client-driven approaches. Result 2: Improved understanding of the cost-effectiveness and efficiency of scaling proven and promising service delivery practices. Result 3: Increased understanding of how proven and promising practices enhance equitable access to high-quality, voluntary family planning.

EVIDENCE PROJECT
|
EVIDENCE Project
|
The Evidence Project uses impl...ementation science - the strategic generation, translation, and use of evidence - to improve family planning policies, programs, and practices. The project is led by the Population Council. Over the course of the project (2013-2020), the Evidence Project was implemented in partnership with INDEPTH Network, International Planned Parenthood Federation, PATH, Population Reference Bureau, Meridian Group International, Management Sciences for Health, and the projects University Resource Network. The Evidence Project is investigating which strategies work best in improving, expanding, and sustaining family planning services. It is also evaluating how to implement and scale up those strategies. Critical to the Evidence Project is translating this knowledge and working with stakeholders to apply the evidence and to build capacity in using implementation science to improve policies, programs, and practices.

KNOWLEDGE SUCCESS
|
Knowledge SUCCESS
|
Knowledge SUCCESS (Strengtheni...ng Use, Capacity, Collaboration, Exchange, Synthesis, and Sharing) is a five-year (2019-2024), $35 million global project funded by USAID s Office for Population and Reproductive Health. Knowledge SUCCESS champions the use of knowledge management, or the process of collecting and curating knowledge and connecting people to it so they can act effectively, within the global family planning and reproductive health community. The project serves a wide range of audiences, however, the main audience is family planning implementers those professionals who are responsible for designing, implementing, and evaluating family planning programs and services and the project's mandate is to meet their knowledge needs: by making critical, high-quality information available and accessible, by enabling routine, meaningful sharing of knowledge, and by building lasting capacity for collaboration, learning, and adaptation. The project is led by the Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs (CCP) in partnership with Amref Health Africa, The Busara Center for Behavioral Economics, and FHI 360. Our team combines extensive knowledge management and family planning expertise with emerging behavioral science approaches and a global and regional reach. Knowledge SUCCESS builds on the legacy of USAID s Knowledge for Health (K4Health) Project and its popular products and services.

USAIDs YouthPower Learning pro...ject closed major knowledge gaps in PYD theory and practice, yet there is a continuing need to build, expand, and disseminate PYD evidence and learning more widely across multiple sectors. USAIDs Journey to Self-Reliance agenda requires a fresh perspective and forward-looking approaches to achieve systems change through effective integration of PYD principles and frameworks into local community and host-government strategies.

Implementation Network for Sha...ring Population Information from Research Entities in East Africa (INSPIRE-EA)

Decisions on health policy and... provision should be made using high quality data from multiple sources. The UN have encouraged data to be Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable (FAIR) but much of the data in Africa has not reached the standards of FAIR data. Population data on health are important to measure many of the indicators for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), including the Universal Health Coverage (UHC). In most Eastern African countries, health and demographic sentinel surveillance (HDSS) sites are used to collect health data from within populations. The ALPHA network has demonstrated how HIV data from HDSS can be used to show how HIV affected the population, and the impact of HIV services and policies (including the delivery of anti-retroviral therapy) on the health of people living with HIV. The overall aim of this project is to create the Implementation Network for Sharing Population Information from Research Entities (INSPIRE) network in East Africa. This recognises the value of sharing harmonised, FAIR data across countries and across settings, and it sets up the mechanism by which these data can be produced. The INSPIRE network will build the key components for the data platform. Firstly we will bring together the institutions that collect primary data through HDSS, and to outline the benefits and support that such a network could bring to HDSS. The proposed network would be modelled on the INDEPTH network, and use SAPRIN in South Africa (www.saprin.mrc.ac.za) as an example of how it could work. The goal of this component is to establish a partnership which leverages population health data from different institutions into FAIR data that enables high quality analysis to answer policy relevant questions. The second component is to establish the technical requirements of FAIR data and to make the foundations to produce the data. Building on the work of ALPHA network, we will use automated methods for HDSS partners to extract, transform and load their own HDSS data into a common database. We will retain the provenance of the data through industry standard data documentation which is important for FAIR data. The project will develop and standardise the vocabulary to describe longitudinal population health data in Africa, contributing to international standards so that researchers can understand and search the data. The project will explore the way in which the population health data can be linked with the electronic health records (EHR), which are being developed in Eastern Africa. The third component will encourage the use of the data in order to make the platform sustainable. The project will identify the value of the data, and change the culture towards population health data, demonstrating how the data can be analysed to answer important health questions. Longitudinal, population data on health, while essential to understanding the demand for health services, has been left behind by the digital revolu

Innovate FP: Expanding Options..., Enhancing Choice
more
|
The goal of Innovate FP is to ...expand desirable, affordable, quality contraceptive options to enable women to better meet their changing needs and desires throughout their reproductive lives. Despite recent progress, more than 214 million women of reproductive age, who would like to delay, space, or limit their next pregnancy, do not use modern contraceptives, and many do not use methods for product-related reasons. Innovative solutions are essential to address product gaps. Activities under Innovate FP will build on the current USAID-funded Envision FP project and FHI 360 s broader contraceptive technology work. Through Innovate FP, FHI 360 will seek to strengthen and build partnerships to improve contraceptive options, advance novel approaches with potential for fewer side effects, respond to product-related issues, and address existing gaps in knowledge and practice.

The digital health initiative ...(Digital Square)
more
|
Digital Square works to create... a future where governments and decision-makers can access the information they need to ensure better health outcomes for all. The activity aims to perpetuate the pilot programs by aligning donors and the digital community around shared goals, supporting technical capacity in-country, coordinating and aligning investments around government priorities to achieve lasting impact, and promoting the reuse and adaptation of existing open-source digital health solutions. In Bangladesh, the activity will use FY17 funds to continue providing technical assistance to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) to maintain the operations of the digitized supply chain management systems developed by USAID in the last six years. Digital Square will work with a local Information Technology firm to assist MoHFW to maintain and use the system for procurement planning..

Medicines, Technologies, and P...harmaceutical Services (MTaPS)

|
The goal of MTaPS is to enable... low- and middle-income countries to strengthen their pharmaceutical systems to ensure sustainable access to and appropriate use of safe, effective, quality-assured, and affordable essential medical products and medicines-related pharmaceutical services. The purpose of MTaPS is to provide pharmaceutical system strengthening assistance for sustained improvements in health system performance, and to advance USAID s goals of Preventing Child and Maternal Deaths, Controlling the HIV/AIDS Epidemic, and Combatting Infectious Disease Threats, as well as expanding essential health coverage. MTaPS works to strengthen essential areas of the pharmaceutical sector, including regulatory capacity, supply chain management, pharmaceutical financing and services, and pharmaceutical management information systems. Within this context, MTaPS addresses USG priority health elements including malaria, HIV/AIDS, family planning and reproductive health, tuberculosis, maternal and child health, neglected tropical diseases, and the Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA). MTaPS focuses on enhancing pharmaceutical services through patient-centered solutions while continuing to support essential supply chain functions and medical products supply security. The MTaPS result areas address the five health systems components (governance, human resources, information, financing, and service delivery) as they pertain to pharmaceutical management, informing the design of potential interventions to ensure that they respond to health element and cross-cutting concerns in support of health system strengthening.
