Building on decades of USAIDs ...work procuring health commodities and strengthening supply chains, the Global Health Supply Chain-Procurement and Supply Management project is working to transform global and national supply chains for health commodities. The project integrates two former USAID programs into one efficient supply chain that serves many of the worlds most vulnerable and difficult-to-reach communities. The project is designed to meet todays critical global health challenges eliminating HIV and AIDS, providing universal malaria coverage, and helping women meet their family planning and reproductive health needs. By bringing together advanced technical solutions, a team of highly qualified experts, and proven commercial processes and principles, USAID Global Health Supply Chain works to reduce costs and increase efficiencies in global and national supply chains. In addition to optimizing supply chains, the project is strengthening national supply chain systems and fostering collaboration among supply chain stakeholders worldwide.

BREAKTHROUGH-ACTION
Breakthrough-ACTION
Breakthrough-ACTION will use s...tate-of-the-art, evidence-based tools to encourage people in developing countries to adopt healthy behaviors, from using modern contraceptive methods to sleeping under bed nets to being tested for HIV. Much of the work will harness the power of communication - from mass media campaigns to TV and radio dramas to simple posters in a health clinic - to inspire long-lasting change. The project will also take advantage of other behavioral science approaches such as behavioral economics and human-centered design to improve programs. The program - which builds on a prior five-year, 31-country project called the Health Communication Capacity Collaborative (HC3) - is expected to be double the size. It will be led by CCP who will partner with Save the Children, ideas42, ThinkPlace Kenya and Camber Collective. Breakthrough-ACTION will also be supported in the field by ActionSprout, the International Center for Research on Women and Human Network International. CCP is based at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

DATA FOR IMPACT (D4I)
Data for Impact (D4I)
The USAID-funded Data for Impa...ct (D4I) project is a mechanism for monitoring, evaluation, data analysis and use, and other research needs. D4I is an associate award of the MEASURE Evaluation Phase IV project and is a cross-bureau global health mechanism that supports Missions across health sectors. D4I builds on and reinforces current U.S. government efforts to support countries to generate and use high quality data as evidence to improve programs, policies, and outcomes (https://www.data4impactproject.org). D4I will continue the work of MEASURE Evaluation Phase IV around evaluation, data quality and data use (the specific services are listed below) through the adaptation and use of tools and methodologies developed by MEASURE Evaluation Phase IV and through development of new ones as needed.

Integrated Health Program - DR...C
more
The activity will strengthen t...he capacity of Congolese institutions and communities to deliver quality, integrated health services to improve sustainably the status of the Congolese population, focused on reducing maternal and child deaths. Supporting the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) in meeting the basic health needs of women and children will foster more resilient communities, advance the DRC along its pathway to self-reliance, and help protect U.S. national security. This will be achieved by strengthening health systems, governance, and leadership at provincial, health zone, and facility levels, increasing access to quality, integrated health services, and increasing adoption of healthy behaviors, including through improved care seeking of health services. USAID's Integrated Health Program (IHP) will serve approximately 30 million people in nine provinces, covering an estimated 30 percent of the Congolese population. High-impact and innovative approaches will be tested, scaled, and rigorously documented to promote continuous collaboration, learning, and adapting. Cross-sectoral, integrated approaches to strengthening resilience capacities at the individual, household, community, and system levels will drive USAID's IHP in all targeted health zones, each of which will receive its own, tailored support package developed in collaboration with other co-located mechanisms. The activity will provide a platform for linkages with Breakthrough-ACTION, Global TB Challenge, Food for Peace's DFSAs, FtF's Strengthening Value Chains, CARPE, and the integrated youth, education, and governance activities. The mechanism will also contribute to USAID's Global Water Directive by implementing appropriate community-based approaches for the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of water sources. Sanitation activities will increase demand for sanitation-related products and services through, for example, community-led total sanitation.

To increase youth resilience t...o conflict and violence in the eastern portion of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), the Integrated Youth Development Activity (IYDA) will employ an integrated approach that includes interventions in education, economic growth, and health. This integrated approach will ensure that youth: gain and apply relevant skills for improved educational and social outcomes, are positively engaged in community, are engaged in productive, market-linked livelihoods, and receive information on sexual and reproductive health and referral options for family planning services. The activity will facilitate economic opportunities for youth, and create an enabling environment at the community level that supports youth in developing a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging, and empowerment.

Medicines, Technologies, and P...harmaceutical Services (MTaPS)
more
The goal of MTaPS is to enable... low- and middle-income countries to strengthen their pharmaceutical systems to ensure sustainable access to and appropriate use of safe, effective, quality-assured, and affordable essential medical products and medicines-related pharmaceutical services. The purpose of MTaPS is to provide pharmaceutical system strengthening assistance for sustained improvements in health system performance, and to advance USAID s goals of Preventing Child and Maternal Deaths, Controlling the HIV/AIDS Epidemic, and Combatting Infectious Disease Threats, as well as expanding essential health coverage. MTaPS works to strengthen essential areas of the pharmaceutical sector, including regulatory capacity, supply chain management, pharmaceutical financing and services, and pharmaceutical management information systems. Within this context, MTaPS addresses USG priority health elements including malaria, HIV/AIDS, family planning and reproductive health, tuberculosis, maternal and child health, neglected tropical diseases, and the Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA). MTaPS focuses on enhancing pharmaceutical services through patient-centered solutions while continuing to support essential supply chain functions and medical products supply security. The MTaPS result areas address the five health systems components (governance, human resources, information, financing, and service delivery) as they pertain to pharmaceutical management, informing the design of potential interventions to ensure that they respond to health element and cross-cutting concerns in support of health system strengthening.

EXPANDING EFFECTIVE CONTRACEPT...IVE OPTIONS (EECO)

Expanding Effective Contracept...ive Options (EECO)
more
Over 100 million women cite me...thod-related reasons for non-use of modern contraceptives, underscoring the need for new and improved contraceptive methods and greater method choice. The EECO project is designed to support the research, development and introduction of technologies that meet the full range of sexual and reproductive health needs of women and girls. The EECO teams objective is to produce roadmaps for introducing and creating demand for new woman-initiated family planning methods, including vaginal gels, barrier methods, and intra-vaginal rings. EECO will produce actionable information on how best to register products, which distribution and communication channels have the most traction, what kind of training and advocacy is required, and how to segment the market for each method. These results can then be extrapolated to bring products to national scale, helping to fill critical gaps in the family planning method mix.
