INTEGRATED HEALTH PROGRAM - DR...C

|
Integrated Health Program - DR...C
more
|
The activity will strengthen t...he capacity of Congolese institutions and communities to deliver quality, integrated health services to improve sustainably the status of the Congolese population, focused on reducing maternal and child deaths. Supporting the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) in meeting the basic health needs of women and children will foster more resilient communities, advance the DRC along its pathway to self-reliance, and help protect U.S. national security. This will be achieved by strengthening health systems, governance, and leadership at provincial, health zone, and facility levels; increasing access to quality, integrated health services; and increasing adoption of healthy behaviors, including through improved care seeking of health services. USAID's Integrated Health Program (IHP) will serve approximately 30 million people in nine provinces, covering an estimated 30 percent of the Congolese population. High-impact and innovative approaches will be tested, scaled, and rigorously documented to promote continuous collaboration, learning, and adapting. Cross-sectoral, integrated approaches to strengthening resilience capacities at the individual, household, community, and system levels will drive USAID's IHP in all targeted health zones, each of which will receive its own, tailored support package developed in collaboration with other co-located mechanisms. The activity will provide a platform for linkages with Breakthrough-ACTION, Global TB Challenge, Food for Peace's DFSAs, FtF's Strengthening Value Chains, CARPE, and the integrated youth, education, and governance activities. The mechanism will also contribute to USAID's Global Water Directive by implementing appropriate community-based approaches for the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of water sources. Sanitation activities will increase demand for sanitation-related products and services through, for example, community-led total sanitation.

Integrated Youth Development A...ctivity (IYDA)

To increase youth resilience t...o conflict and violence in the eastern portion of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), the Integrated Youth Development Activity (IYDA) will employ an integrated approach that includes interventions in education, economic growth, and health. This integrated approach will ensure that youth: gain and apply relevant skills for improved educational and social outcomes; are positively engaged in community; are engaged in productive, market-linked livelihoods; and receive information on sexual and reproductive health and referral options for family planning services. The activity will facilitate economic opportunities for youth, and create an enabling environment at the community level that supports youth in developing a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging, and empowerment.

|
EVIDENCE Project Cambodia
|
The Workplace Wellness Program... Global Development Alliance will leverage private-sector resources to improve the reproductive health and nutritional status of young women in the garment industry. The U.S. government will leverage funding and in-kind support from the private sector, including major international clothing companies, to improve garment workers' knowledge about their health-care rights and health needs. This project will also increase factory workers' access to quality healthcare. U.S. government diplomatic and democracy and governance activities will complement this project by improving labor relations and labor rights by leveraging the influence of international clothing companies.

The Evidence Project uses impl...ementation science—the strategic generation, translation, and use of evidence—to improve family planning policies, programs, and practices. Led by the Population Council in partnership with INDEPTH Network, International Planned Parenthood Federation, PATH, Population Reference Bureau, and the project’s University Resource Network, the five-year project (2013–2018) is investigating which strategies work best in improving, expanding, and sustaining family planning services. It is also evaluating how to implement and scale up those strategies. Critical to the Evidence Project is translating this knowledge and working with stakeholders to apply the evidence and to build capacity in using implementation science to improve policies, programs, and practices.

Program Research for Strengthe...ning Services (PROGRESS)

|
The goal of PROGRESS is to imp...rove access to family planning among underserved populations through research and research utilization. To achieve this goal, PROGRESS developed a workplan consisting of four legacy areas. The legacy areas comprise the key organizing structure for identifying and implementing activities, monitoring performance, and assessing achievement of desired outcomes. The legacy areas: 1. Maximizing human resources by task-shifting and addressing medical barriers to family planning services 2. Expanding service delivery options within and beyond the health sector 3. Expanding the family planning method mix for home, community, and lower-level provider use 4. Increasing in-country capacity for research and research utilization.

Since 1988, the U.S. Census Bu...reau has worked with USAIDs Bureau for Global Health to enhance the quantity, quality, and utility of HIV/AIDS-related data. These data are used for policy development, program formulation, and monitoring and evaluation, and form anintegral part of USAIDs work in combating HIV/AIDS. Applying its extensive experience in epidemiological data base projections and population projection modeling, the Census Bureau has contributed to the USAID program with support in monitoring the spread of HIV and in understanding the effect the AIDS pandemic has on development.

This project strengthens the h...uman resources (HR) needed to implement quality health programs, in both the public and private, particularly the not-for-profit private, sectors. It addresses both the number of healthcare workers needed and the quality and performance of those workers. The definition of healthcare worker is expanded to include HR managers, laboratory staff, pharmacists, social workers, information systems/monitoring and evaluation specialists and others essential to the effective functioning of the health system.

Delivering Contraceptive Vagin...al Rings Project
more
|
This project will further the ...development and introduction of two new womaninitiated contraceptive methods by: Completing the development and regulatory approval of the one- year Nesterone(TM)/Ethinyl-Estradiol (NES/EE) contraceptive vaginal ring (CVR), and initiating its introduction into priority countries; Expanding availability in developing country markets of the three-month Progesterone Vaginal Ring (PVR) for postpartum women who are breastfeeding The NES/EE CVR and PVR will be piloted for introduction through both the public and private sectors, including through social marketing and not-for-profit providers, with the potential of reaching up to twenty-five million users. Introduction strategies will focus on provision through multiple channels, including commercial outlets and community outreach initiatives. To complete this work, the Population Council will collaborate with donors and agencies involved in obtaining regulatory approvals and prequalification, as well as procurement organizations to facilitate the process of introduction.

EXPANDING EFFECTIVE CONTRACEPT...IVE OPTIONS (EECO)

|
Expanding Effective Contracept...ive Options (EECO)
more
|
Over 100 million women cite me...thod-related reasons for non-use of modern contraceptives, underscoring the need for new and improved contraceptive methods and greater method choice. The EECO project is designed to support the research, development and introduction of technologies that meet the full range of sexual and reproductive health needs of women and girls. The EECO teams objective is to produce roadmaps for introducing and creating demand for new woman-initiated family planning methods, including vaginal gels, barrier methods, and intra-vaginal rings. EECO will produce actionable information on how best to register products, which distribution and communication channels have the most traction, what kind of training and advocacy is required, and how to segment the market for each method. These results can then be extrapolated to bring products to national scale, helping to fill critical gaps in the family planning method mix.
