KEN 202874-102 Implementation ...phase for Adolescent Girls Initiative. AGI-K includes four interventions in the areas of violence prevention, education, health promotion, and wealth creation. The interventions are designed as follows:
1) Violence Prevention - preventing violence against girls: Committees are established in participating communities to identify the key challenges facing girls in that community and then to subsequently develop a ‘contract’ to prevent violence against girls. The contracts include specific steps to address issues affecting girls and an action plan for implementing the related activities. The committees include religious and community leaders, parents, teachers and young men and women. Some funding is provided to support the implementation of the contracts.
2) Education - incentivising girls to stay in primary school: Cash transfers are provided to beneficiary households conditional on the 80% school attendance of participating girls during each school term. School fees are also paid directly to the school at the start of each term as well as an incentive of £3 per girl enrolled in the program. Basic school kits, containing sanitary towels and school supplies, are provided to the girls at the beginning of the term
3) Health - promoting good health for girls: Girls meet in groups once a week under the guidance of a female mentor from the community. These “safe spaces meetings” include facilitated discussions using a health, life skills, and nutrition curriculum, as well as time for open discussion.
4) Wealth Creation - increasing financial assets for girls: Girls are provided with weekly financial training in additional “safe spaces meetings” to understand how they can manage savings. In addition, the girls receive an annual incentive of £2 to allow them to put into practice the financial skills they have learned. In Wajir, this is provided through a home bank (piggy bank); in Kibera, this is provided through a girl-friendly savings account.

With a population of 795,000, ...Djibouti has one of the highest prevalence rates of TB. Nearly 13.5 percent of TB patients were co-infected with HIV. The program supported by this grant aims to reduce TB-related illness and death by decreasing the prevalence rate from 1,553/100,000 to775/100,000 and by increasing the detection and treatment success rates for smear-positive pulmonary TB. The program is decentralizing diagnostic and directly observed treatment at the district level; setting up and extending an external microscopy quality control; reinforcing coordination between the TB and HIV and AIDS programs; and increasing access for people living with HIV to TB diagnostics and treatment. The program targets the underserved and poor populations in urban and rural zones.

The UK will provide £30m to s...upport non-state providers deliver reproductive health (RH) results over four years (2012 to 2016) in Pakistan and so improve maternal and newborn health by reducing unintended and high risk pregnancies. Non-state providers will scale up access to and use of modern family planning (FP) services initially, with potential to prove a more comprehensive Reproductive Health (RH) service package by including other interventions such as safe delivery, nutrition and prevention and treatment of sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Women, girls and men with the greatest needs (such as those in poorly-served urban and rural areas) will be prioritised in both supply and demand interventions of the project. In addition, support will also address deep-rooted social and cultural barriers that prevent women from benefitting from effective and quality services.

the programme aims both to int...egrate broader reproductive health services within existing HIV specific services such as standalone HIV centres, and to integrate HIV prevention services into existing RH care delivery such as family planning services. Specific activities include: scaling up voluntary medical male circumcision; provision of family planning services; provision of post exposure HIV prevention for survivors of rape; scaling up HIV testing and counselling; HIV related care and treatment services to most at risk populations; and tackling key aspects of behaviour change relating to prevention of HIV and gender based violence.
