Integrated Community Agricultu...re and Nutrition (ICAN) - Community Connector Follow-on
more
|
USAID's Integrated Community A...griculture and Nutrition Activity (ICAN) is USAID/Uganda's flagship resilience project, awarded in July 2018. The Activity goal is to enhance the resilience of vulnerable households in the eight districts. Over five years, ICAN will work with community groups to maximize economic opportunities for vulnerable households, stabilize their access to and consumption of diverse and nutritious diets, and increase social capital by reinforcing relationships among formal governance systems and communities. Through collaboration with the private sector, and promoting a community land management approach, ICAN is laying the foundation for self-reliance in Uganda. Throughout implementation, ICAN will pay particular attention to gender, social inclusion, and youth/adolescents, and will incorporate a strong social and behavior change (SBC) component. ICAN will increase economic opportunities for 116,000 poor households by improving agriculture and non-agriculture-based livelihoods, and by strengthening their connections to markets and financial services. ICAN will layer interventions and partner with RHITES SW, RHITES E and other health activities to addressing health and nutrition challenges. In building household resilience, through community platforms and models, ICAN will mobilize women and adolescents and deliver community services in order to contribute to improved maternal child health, Family planning, WASH and nutrition outcomes.

The Kampala Slum Maternal Newb...orn Project: Innovating for Better Health Outcomes
more
|
The project, along with leader...ship from the Kampala Capital City Authority, will test an innovative package of interventions to address real-world demand and supply-side barriers affecting care-seeking, effective referrals and provision of care for women and newborns in two of Kampala s poorest areas, Makindye and Rubaga. The project will address barriers to better MNH outcomes among the urban poor within a complex health care delivery system, and will provide insights on ensuring sustainability through mobilizing local resources (public and private). Project objectives: Empower poor pregnant women in urban areas to be able to recognize illness and make timely decisions to seek care for themselves and their babies. Ensure that quality maternal and newborn care is accessible by harnessing and collaborating with available private providers. Improve referral linkages and ensure emergency transport between primary care private facilities and referral hospitals

USAID/Uganda Maternal Child He...alth and Nutrition (MCHN) Activity
more
|
The activity supports two resu...lts:..1. MCHN service delivery improved: This result will support Government of Uganda (GoU) efforts to cascade, from the national level to the subnational level, the policies, guidelines, standards and implementation strategies (henceforth referred to collectively as strategies) that promote improved MCHN service delivery. Specifically, the activity will: a. Strengthen national governments capacity to develop and roll out high quality strategies to improve MCHN service delivery, b. Support other USAID/Uganda efforts to help subnational governments adopt and scale-up national-level strategies to improve MCHN service delivery in Ugandas Eastern, East Central, Southwestern, and two Northern regions (Acholi and Lango). c. Strengthen national-subnational linkages, and subnational capacity, to deliver improved MCHN services in Kampala, creating a national model for urban service delivery...2. Capacity for MCHN good governance increased: This result will be achieved by further strengthening GoU capacity for the multi-sectoral cooperation, evidence-based decision-making, and good governance leadership required to achieve and sustain improvements in MCHN outcomes envisaged in Result 1 above.

New Partnerships Initiative: E...XPAND (New Partners for Better Health)
more
|
New Partnerships Initiative (N...PI) EXPAND (New Partners for Better Health) is a five-year (2019-2024), $43.9 million global project with the goal of working with missions and organizations to increase the availability and utilization of quality health services across all USAID priority health areas. NPI EXPAND will catalyze opportunities to scale up innovative interventions by strengthening the capacity of New and Underutilized Partners (NUP) with varying levels of capabilities and exposure to USAID. In line with the Journey to Self-Reliance, NPI EXPAND will support countries to identify and strengthen local organizations to participate fully in their local health system. New Partnerships Initiative will increase USAID s development impact by elevating local leadership, fostering creativity and innovation, and mobilizing resources across the Agency s programs. 1. Strengthen the organizational sustainability of new and underutilized local entities or locally established partners: Targeted countries will advance their self-reliance through a strengthened cadre of NUPs that are ready to meet the needs of the underserved. The activity will support NUPs to increase their managerial, financial, and administrative capacities to enhance their ability to not only receive direct support from USAID but also be more engaged partners within local health systems. 2. Expand utilization of high-quality, high-impact health services, information and supplies expanded: Participating NUPs will contribute to enhancing the supply and utilization of high-quality, integrated health services, with a focus on reaching underserved populations. NPI EXPAND supports this evolution by fostering the technical skills of providers, the expansion of services offered, quality assurance systems, and introducing cost-effective demand creation techniques that can be integrated in the service delivery setting. 3. Increase sustainability of promising and innovative health approaches scaled-up through new an

more
|
Maternal and Child Survival Pr...ogram (MCSP - formerly RMNCH)
more
|
The United States Agency for I...nternational Developments (USAID) Bureau for Global Healths flagship Maternal and Child Survival Program (MCSP) focuses on 25 high-priority countries with the ultimate goal of preventing child and maternal deaths. The Program is introducing and supporting high-impact, sustainable reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health (RMNCH) interventions in partnership with ministries of health and other partners. MCSP places a greater emphasis on key cross-cutting issues such as innovation, e/mHealth, equity, quality, gender, public-private partnerships and involvement of civil society, community approaches, health systems strengthening, and behavior change interventions. While maintaining a focus on technical, high-impact interventions, the Program works toward sustainable scale-up to include the health systems that deliver these interventions. In addition to contributing to high-level technical and policy dialogue at the global level, the Program provides tailored technical assistance to help countries meet specific priorities and contextual needs of local RMNCH programs.

USAID DISCOVER-HEALTH PROJECT
|
USAID DISCOVER-Health Project
|
The USAID DISCOVER-Health Proj...ect contributes towards HIV epidemic control in Zambia while also providing reproductive health and family planning, and maternal and child health services and products. The five-year Project, which is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), partners with the Government of the Republic of Zambia to deliver assistance directly through a national network of outreach clinics and sites, and product outlets. The Project takes health services to underserved communities which are often in the poorest and remotest parts of the country. USAID DISCOVER-Health employs the overarching strategy of a total market approach, contributing to efforts to ensure that all sectors - public, subsidized, and private - work together to deliver health choices for all population segments. The Project partners with the Ministry of Health to ensure that those in need have access to priority health services and products that they can afford, whether free, subsidized, or commercially priced...By December 2020, USAID DISCOVER-Health aims to test nearly one million people for HIV, reach 700,000 people with prevention interventions, provide HIV treatment to 80,000 antiretroviral therapy-naive clients, and sell 140 million socially marketed condoms.

Scaling Up Early Childhood Dev...elopment in Zambia (SUpErCDZ)
more
|
The Scaling Up Early Childhood... Development in Zambia (SUpErCDZ) activity provides early childhood development (ECD) innovations to improve physical and cognitive health outcomes for children, between ages 0-6. Operating across four districts in Southern and Eastern Provinces, SUpErCDZ works with local resources, including Safe Motherhood Action Groups, also know as SMAGs, and maternity waiting homes to establish community-based parenting groups that can respond to the needs of young children. These groups address topics including cognitive stimulation, child nutrition, and positive parenting. The SUpErCDZ project also provides training and mentorship to healthcare workers, community health volunteers, early childhood development workers, and caregivers to improve ECD-related knowledge and behaviors in their communities.
