Out of the 47 countries in the WHO African region only eight, on average, met the recommended threshold of spending a minimum of US$ 249 per capita on health during the period from 2012 to 2020. Furthermore, more work is needed on strengthening these systems to be able to meet the needs of both host communities and refugees.
