hree analyses that NCDs reduce economic output and discusses potential options in response, outlining details of their relative returns on investment. An economic burden analysis shows that economic losses from NCDs (direct and indirect costs) comprise 2.3 trillion tenge, equivalent to 4.5% of gross domestic product in 2017. An intervention costing analysis provides an estimate of the funding required to implement a set of policy interventions for prevention and clinical interventions. A cost–benefit analysis compares these implementation costs with the estimated health gains and identifies which policy packages would give the greatest returns on investment. For example, the salt policy package achieved a benefit-to-cost ratio of 118.4 over 15 years, a return of more than 118 tenge for every 1 tenge invested.

Les infirmières en oncologie doivent assumer un rôle crucial en dispensant des soins tout au long de la trajectoire de la maladie, soins palliatifs compris. Le but de cette revue rapide est de synthétiser et présenter les avantages des interventions de soins palliatifs précoces et de décrire leurs caractéristiques. La recherche documentaire sur CINAHL et PubMed a fait ressortir cinq essais randomisés réalisés entre 2010 et 2018, qui ont été analysés. La majorité des études sélectionnées ont conclu que l’intégration précoce des soins palliatifs aux soins oncologiques standards, tels que la chimiothérapie et la radiothérapie, permettrait d’améliorer la qualité de vie, les symptômes anxiodépressifs et la survie globale. In South Africa, statutory compensation for occupational lung diseases in mineworkers makes provisions for autopsy examinations of the cardio-respiratory organs at the National Institute for Occupational Health (NIOH) in Johannesburg. In addition, the Johannesburg-based Asbestos Relief Trust and Kgalagadi Relief Trust (the “Trusts”) compensate individuals with defined asbestos-related diseases who worked in or lived near qualifying asbestos mining or processing operations. The Trusts also compensate dependents of deceased qualifying mineworkers and therefore encourage statutory autopsies for the detection of previously undiagnosed asbestos-related disease or disease that may have progressed to higher compensation grades.
