March 2019 - An estimated 7.1 ...million people across South Sudan are in need of humanitarian assistance and protection across the country as a result of armed conflict, food insecurity, malnutrition, economic decline and disease. Approximately 1.9 million people are internally displaced within South Sudan and almost 2.3 million South Sudanese have sought protection in neighbouring countries. An estimated 6.2 million people are currently severely food insecure, with malnutrition rates over emergency thresholds. Outbreaks of communicable diseases have strained an already overwhelmed health system. Humanitarian access remains restricted in many areas and large numbers of people are accessible only by air drops. With GAC's support, Concern Worldwide is providing emergency water, sanitation, hygiene and nutrition assistance for up to 113,366 displaced and conflict-affected people in Unity and Central Equatoria states of South Sudan. Project activities include: (1) rehabilitating and operating 10 boreholes equipped with hand pumps in Rubkona and Guit counties; (2) constructing 32 communal latrines, and 100 handwashing stations in the Bentiu Protection of Civilian site; and (3) delivering outpatient therapeutic programs, targeted supplementary feeding programs and infant and young child feeding services for 14,596 children and 3,574 pregnant and lactating women across all project sites. /En mars 2019, on estime que 7,1 millions de personnes dans le Soudan du Sud ont besoin d'aide humanitaire et de protection dans tout le pays en raison du conflit armé, de l'insécurité alimentaire, de la malnutrition, du déclin économique et des maladies. March 2019 - An estimated 7.1 ...million people across South Sudan are in need of humanitarian assistance and protection across the country as a result of armed conflict, food insecurity, malnutrition, economic decline and disease. Approximately 1.9 million people are internally displaced within South Sudan and almost 2.3 million South Sudanese have sought protection in neighbouring countries. An estimated 6.2 million people are currently severely food insecure, with malnutrition rates over emergency thresholds. Outbreaks of communicable diseases have strained an already overwhelmed health system. Humanitarian access remains restricted in many areas and large numbers of people are accessible only by air drops. With GAC's support, Doctors without Borders Canada is providing emergency health services for up to 167,000 conflict affected people in Upper Nile and Jonglei states. Project activities include: (1) providing primary health care, including 38,000 malaria patients treated and 52,000 vaccinations; (2) providing sexual and reproductive healthcare services, including 6,684 post-natal consultations and 3,440 assisted deliveries; and (3) providing secondary healthcare services, including 3,969 inpatient admissions and 1,400 malnutrition cases treated with therapeutic feeding. /Mars 2019 - On estime que 7,1 millions de personnes dans le Soudan du Sud ont besoin d'aide humanitaire et de protection dans tout le pays en raison du conflit armé, de l'insécurité alimentaire, de la malnutrition, du déclin économique et des maladies. With GAC's support, World Visi...on Canada is providing emergency water, sanitation, hygiene, nutrition and protection assistance for up to 118,306 conflict-affected people in South Sudan's Upper Nile state. Project activities include: (1) supporting 9 water treatment systems and rehabilitating waterpoints in 10 targeted schools; (2) supporting community-based management of acute malnutrition; (3) providing messaging on Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) best practices to 28,181 pregnant and lactating women, 7,500 women of childbearing age and 5,500 men; and (4) reaching 12,000 women, men, boys and girls with gender-based violence services and referral information. /Mars 2019 - On estime que 7,1 millions de personnes dans le Soudan du Sud ont besoin d'aide humanitaire et de protection dans tout le pays en raison du conflit armé, de l'insécurité alimentaire, de la malnutrition, du déclin économique et des maladies. The International Committee of... the Red Cross' (ICRC) primary mission is to help protect the lives and dignity of people affected by conflict and other situations of violence. The ICRC provides assistance and prevents further suffering by promoting and strengthening international humanitarian law and universal humanitarian principles. With the support of GAC and other donors, the ICRC's humanitarian operations aim to provide protection, emergency relief, and other essential services to people affected by armed conflict and other situations of violence, as well as to promote respect for international humanitarian law. Project activities include: (1) providing medical care, access to water and sanitation facilities, food assistance and livelihoods support; (2) providing Red Cross/Red Crescent National Societies with technical expertise to strengthen their capacity in areas such as promoting international humanitarian law, restoring family links, and delivering relief in situations of armed conflict and violence; and (3) ensuring that international humanitarian law is respected in the treatment of civilians not taking part in hostilities, as well as for detainees. /Le Comité international de la Croix-Rouge (CICR) a pour mission première de contribuer à protéger la vie et la dignité des personnes touchées par les conflits et autres situations de violence. Le CICR apporte un soutien aux personnes touchées et aide à prévenir d'autres souffrances au moyen de la promotion et du renforcement du droit international humanitaire et des principes humanitaires universels. Avec le soutien d'AMC et d'autres donateurs, les opérations d'urgence du CICR visent à offrir une protection, des secours d'urgence et d'autres services essentiels aux personnes touchées par des conflits armés et d'autres situations de violence, de même qu'à promouvoir le respect pour le droit international humanitaire. August 2014 - The humanitarian... situation in Iraq continues to deteriorate as armed clashes continue to drive displacement. The recent surge in violence between armed groups and government forces has displaced an estimated 1.3 million people from their homes. Basic services, including health care and water infrastructure, are disrupted and cause an estimated 1.5 million people to be in need of immediate humanitarian assistance. Iraqi Kurdistan is hosting an additional 230,000 Syrian refugees, which is also placing a great strain on local infrastructure. The situation is expected to deteriorate as fighting and human rights violations persist. This project is helping to reduce the vulnerability of internally displaced people affected by the civil unrest in Iraq. Project activities include: (1) providing food assistance to up to 342,000 people and essential household items, such as hygiene kits, cooking materials, blankets and tents, to up to 240,000 people; (2) rehabilitating essential water and sanitation facilities, such as drinking water stations and latrines, benefiting 1 million people; (3) assisting health facilities through the provision of medical supplies, training for medical professionals and physical rehabilitation services; and (4) promoting respect for humanitarian principles and international humanitarian law with Iraqi authorities and other influential actors. /Août 2014 – La situation humanitaire en Irak continue de se détériorer, alors que des affrontements armés entraînent le déplacement. La récente flambée de violence entre des groupes armés et des forces gouvernementales a entraîné le déplacement d'environ 1,3 million de personnes de leur foyer. January 2019 - Founded in 1946..., the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) is mandated by the United Nation General Assembly to protect the rights of children and women in developing countries through its development and humanitarian assistance programming. UNICEF's mandate in humanitarian situations is to meet the needs of the most vulnerable, to save lives and protect rights. In humanitarian emergencies, UNICEF's project activities include: (1) providing people with access to safe drinking water and sanitation facilities; (2) treating children for severe acute malnutrition; (3) providing emergency education programming for children; (4) ensuring protection services for children and women; and (5) providing basic healthcare. /Janvier 2019 – Fondé en 1946, le Fonds des Nations Unies pour l'enfance (UNICEF) est mandaté par l'Assemblée générale des Nations Unies pour protéger les droits des enfants et des femmes dans les pays en développement par le biais de ses programmes d'aide humanitaire et de développement. March 2019 – The United Nati...ons High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) provides international protection and assistance to the world's refugees, stateless persons, asylum seekers, and in some instances, internally-displaced persons. The UNHCR searches for lasting solutions to their situations. With the support of GAC and other donors, the project provides assistance and protection to refugees, internally-displaced persons and other persons of concern in twenty countries across the world. Project activities include: (1) providing shelter, clothing and other essential non-food items; (2) providing adequate water, sanitation and health services, including in reproductive health; (3) providing opportunities for education and livelihoods support; (4) providing protection, including against sexual and gender-based violence, child protection and working with governments to register asylum seekers and refugees, and help issue identity documents; (5) working with governments to support refugee self-reliance and forge peaceful relations between refugees and local citizens; and (6) expanding opportunities for durable solutions for people of concern. /Mars 2019 - Le Haut-Commissariat des Nations Unies pour les réfugiés (HCR) offre une protection et une assistance internationales aux réfugiés du monde entier, aux apatrides, aux demandeurs d'asile et, dans certains cas, aux personnes déplacées à l'intérieur de leur propre pays. March 2019 - An estimated 7.1 ...million people are in need of humanitarian assistance and protection across Sudan as a result of armed conflict, food insecurity, malnutrition, economic decline and disease. Approximately 2 million people are internally displaced within the country. Instability around Sudan's borders has also led to thousands seeking asylum and refuge in Sudan. The number of South Sudanese refugees in Sudan is over 844,000, making Sudan the largest host of South Sudanese. Refugees, asylum seekers and migrants from Central African Republic (CAR), Chad, Eritrea, Ethiopia and Syria are also present, bringing the total number of refugees to 1.2 million. An estimated 5.7 million people are currently severely food insecure, with malnutrition rates over emergency thresholds. With GAC's support, ADRA Canada is providing emergency water, sanitation, hygiene and protection assistance for up to 112,907 conflict-affected people in Sudan's Blue Nile state. March 2019 - An estimated 7.1 ...million people across Sudan are in need of humanitarian assistance and protection across the country as a result of armed conflict, food insecurity, malnutrition, economic decline and disease. Approximately 2 million people are internally displaced within the country. Instability around Sudan's borders has also led to thousands seeking asylum and refuge in Sudan. The number of South Sudanese refugees in Sudan is over 844,000, making Sudan the largest host of South Sudanese. Refugees, asylum seekers and migrants from CAR, Chad, Eritrea, Ethiopia and Syria are also present, bringing the total number of refugees to 1.2 million. An estimated 5.7 million people are currently severely food insecure, with malnutrition rates over emergency thresholds. With GAC's support, CARE Canada is providing emergency water, sanitation, hygiene, nutrition and health assistance for up to 174,504 conflict-affected people in Sudan's East and South Darfur states. Project activities include: (1) rehabilitating and operating 7 water yards in East Darfur and constructing two mini water wells in South Darfur, providing safe water to 85,000 beneficiaries, as well as the construction of 350 household latrines; (2) supporting the operation and maintenance of 8 Outpatient Therapeutic Program (OTP) and Target Supplementary Feeding Program (TSFP) sites in East Darfur, improving nutrition outcomes for 4,410 vulnerable people; 3) rehabilitating 3 public health centers, including constructing/improving different wards and incinerators based on the relevant ministry's standard; and (4) providing Expanded Program of Immunization (EPI) services for 2,270 children under five years of age and 1,130 pregnant or lactating women. /En mars 2019, on estime que 7,1 millions de personnes au Soudan ont besoin d'aide humanitaire et de protection dans le pays en raison du conflit armé, de l'insécurité alimentaire, de la malnutrition, du déclin économique et des maladies. Continued violence in Syria raises little prospects for the voluntary, safe, sustainable and dignified return of over 5.6 million refugees in the region. Internally displaced persons range in the millions in Syria and Iraq, and refugees facing protracted displacement in host countries continue to face acute humanitarian needs in Jordan and Lebanon. With the support of GAC and other donors, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) aims to save lives, protect the rights, and meet the needs of the most vulnerable people, including children, adolescent girls and women in Iraq, Jordan Lebanon and Syria. Project activities include: (1) providing people with access to safe drinking water and sanitation facilities; (2) treating children for severe acute malnutrition; (3) providing emergency education programming for children; (4) ensuring protection services for children, adolescent girls and women; and (5) providing basic healthcare. /Juillet 2019 - Les besoins humanitaires découlant des crises en Syrie et en Iraq restent importants dans tout le Moyen-Orient. Internally displaced persons range in the millions in Syria and Iraq, and refugees facing protracted displacement in host countries continue to face acute humanitarian needs in Jordan and Lebanon. With GAC's support, the project is providing flexible regional funding to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) on a multiyear basis, for its emergency operations in Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria. Regional funding provides UNICEF with the flexibility to allocate funds to acute humanitarian needs that are critically underfunded, and provides the flexibility to respond to emerging needs. Project activities include: (1) providing people with access to safe drinking water and sanitation facilities; (2) treating children for severe acute malnutrition; (3) providing emergency education programming for children; (4) ensuring protection services for children, adolescent girls and women; and (5) providing basic healthcare. /Juin 2019 – Les besoins humanitaires découlant des crises en Syrie et en Irak demeurent importants au Moyen-Orient. La violence continuelle en Syrie ne laisse guère entrevoir le retour volontaire, sûr, durable et digne de plus de 5,6 millions de réfugiés dans la région. Les réfugiés qui font face à des déplacements prolongés dans les pays d'accueil affrontent des besoins humanitaires aigus en Jordanie et au Liban. Grâce au soutien d'AMC et d'autres donateurs, le Fonds des Nations Unies pour l'enfance (UNICEF) vise à : sauver des vies, protéger les droits et répondre aux besoins des plus vulnérables, notamment les femmes et les enfants. May 2018 – The humanitarian ...situation in Syria has continued to deteriorate as a result of the civil war in the country. An estimated 13.1 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance, with over 6 million internally displaced persons according to the United Nations. Years of active conflict and displacement have resulted in severe protection risks and increased vulnerability of millions of persons in Syria. Humanitarian access remains a significant challenge and repeated attacks on humanitarian and medical workers continue, adding to the complexity of the humanitarian response. With GAC's support, the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) is managing a Humanitarian Pooled Fund in Turkey, as well as one in Syria. These two Funds channel resources to humanitarian partners to respond to the critical needs of people affected by the devastating humanitarian crisis in Syria. Project activities include: (1) supporting life-saving activities by filling critical funding gaps; (2) promoting needs-based assistance in accordance with humanitarian principles; (3) strengthening coordination of humanitarian assistance; (4) improving the relevance and coherence of humanitarian response by strategically funding priorities as identified under the Humanitarian Response Plan; and (5) expanding the delivery of humanitarian assistance in hard-to-reach areas of the country by partnering with local and international non-governmental organizations. /Mai 2018 – La situation humanitaire en Syrie continue de se détériorer suite au conflit qui continue dans le pays. Environ 13,1 millions de personnes font face à des besoins humanitaires en Syrie, et plus de 6 millions de personnes sont déplacés à l'intérieur du pays selon les Nations Unies. Des années de conflit et de déplacement ont engendré des risques graves de protection et la vulnérabilité accrue de millions de personnes en Syrie. L'accès humanitaire continue de présenter un problème, et plusieurs attaques sur le personnel médical et humanitaire continuent d'ajouter à la complexité de la réponse humanitaire au pays. Internally displaced persons range in the millions in Syria and Iraq, and humanitarian needs are acute for refugees facing protracted displacement in Jordan and Lebanon. With the support of GAC and other donors, the ICRC's humanitarian operations in Syria, Iraq, Jordan and Lebanon aim to provide protection, emergency relief, and other essential services to people affected by armed conflict and other situations of violence, as well as to promote respect for international humanitarian law. Project activities include: (1) providing medical care, access to water and sanitation facilities, food assistance and livelihoods support; (2) providing Red Cross/Red Crescent National Societies with technical expertise to strengthen their capacity in areas such as promoting international humanitarian law, restoring family links, and delivering relief in situations of armed conflict and violence; and (3) ensuring that international humanitarian law is respected in the treatment of civilians not taking part in hostilities, as well as for detainees. /Juin 2019 – Les besoins humanitaires découlant des crises en Syrie et en Irak demeurent importants au Moyen-Orient. With the support of GAC and other donors, the World Food Programme (WFP) is providing food assistance to more than 7 million people facing malnutrition and severe food insecurity in Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria. WFP is the United Nations' frontline agency in the fight against hunger. It responds to emergencies, saves lives by quickly getting food to the hungry, and works to help prevent hunger in the future. In the four countries, WFP focuses on providing targeted food assistance to reduce acute malnutrition and food insecurity, and to protect livelihoods. As the global lead agency for logistics and emergency telecommunications, WFP also plays a major role in providing common services for the humanitarian community. Project activities include: (1) distributing food; (2) supplementary feeding for children under the age of five years old, as well as for pregnant and lactating women; (3) establishing emergency school feeding programs; (4) supplying vouchers and cash transfers for food; and (5) providing food for work. September 2016 – The Syria C...risis has undermined security and stability in the Middle East and has resulted in unprecedented humanitarian needs. Now in its sixth year, the conflict in Syria has led to the worst displacement crisis in the world. Millions of internally displaced persons (IDPs), refugees, stateless persons and asylum seekers in Syria, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt and Turkey are vulnerable to violence, food and income insecurity, health risks, and sexual and gender-based violence. Canada is helping to reduce the vulnerability of millions of crisis-affected people, especially women and children, through a broad spectrum of humanitarian assistance activities across Syria and in refugee hosting countries. GAC's multi-year humanitarian support to this project is contributing to improved health, living conditions, livelihoods and protection for conflict-affected populations in Syria. Project activities include: (1) providing food assistance and non-food essential relief items (NFI) to conflict-affected people; (2) supporting productive inputs for livelihoods of water and habitat support; (3) providing medical services through direct support to health centres and hospitals; and (4) providing physical rehabilitation support to vulnerable persons. /Septembre 2016 – La crise qui sévit en Syrie a miné la sécurité et la stabilité au Moyen-Orient et a créé des besoins humanitaires sans précédent. Le conflit en Syrie, qui en est à sa sixième année, a provoqué la plus importante crise de déplacement dans le monde. Des millions de personnes déplacées, de réfugiés, d'apatrides et de demandeurs d'asile en Syrie, en Iraq, en Jordanie, au Liban, en Égypte et en Turquie sont exposées à la violence, à l'insécurité alimentaire et financière, à des risques pour la santé et à la violence sexuelle et sexiste, et prennent des moyens dangereux pour fuir vers l'Europe et d'autres lieux. Le Canada contribue à réduire la vulnérabilité des millions de personnes touchées par la crise, particulièrement les femmes et les enfants, grâce à un vaste éventail d'activités d'aide humanitaire menées en Syrie et dans les pays accueillant des réfugiés. Dans le cadre de ce projet, le soutien humanitaire pluriannuel d'AMC contribue à améliorer la santé, les conditions de vie, les moyens de subsistance et les mesures de protection chez les populations touchées par le conflit en Syrie. Le projet comporte les activités suivantes : (1) fournir une aide alimentaire et des articles non alimentaires de première nécessité aux personnes touchées par le conflit; (2) fournir des intrants productifs à l'appui des moyens de subsistance, notamment l'approvisionnement en eau et le maintien de l'habitat; (3) fournir des services médicaux par un soutien direct aux centres de santé et aux hôpitaux; et (4) fournir des services de réadaptation physique et de soutien aux personnes vulnérables.

GAC's multi-year humanitarian support to this project is contributing to address gender-based violence (GBV) and meeting the reproductive health (RH) needs of vulnerable women, girls and youth in Syria. Project activities include: (1) distributing Dignity Kits and prepositioning post-rape treatment kits in health facilities; (2) providing case management services for GBV survivors; (3) establishing women-only community centres and safe spaces for women; (4) disseminating information on available GBV services; (5) expanding coordination mechanisms to improve GBV responses; (6) improving the capacity of national GBV service providers; (7) providing emergency life-saving RH services to IDPs through mobile clinics; (8) establishing and supporting, including through the procurement of medical equipment, RH clinics for IDPs; (9) providing RH services for youth and carrying out youth needs assessments; and (10) mapping out youth-led initiatives. /Septembre 2016 – La crise qui sévit en Syrie a miné la sécurité et la stabilité au Moyen-Orient et a créé des besoins humanitaires sans précédent. February 2017 - The humanitari...an situation in Syria continues to deteriorate as a result of the civil war in the country. An estimated 13.5 million people continue to be in need of humanitarian assistance, 6.1 million of which are displaced internally by violence, a number of which are located in besieged communities according to the United Nations. Repeated and deliberate attacks on humanitarian and medical workers continue to plague the conflict, adding to the vulnerability of millions of people, particularly women and children, who are affected by the conflict and struggle for access to the most basic services. With GAC's support, the project aims to: (1) provide essential primary health care services; (2) support the provision of medicines and medical supplies; (3) support health facilities, clinics and mobile health and (4) support the capacity building and training of the local partner organization. /Février 2017 – La situation humanitaire en Syrie continue de se dégrader en raison de la guerre civile. On estime à 13,5 millions le nombre de personnes qui continuent d'avoir besoin d'une aide humanitaire, dont 6,1 millions sont des personnes déplacées en raison de la violence qui a cours, dont un nombre important se trouvent dans des collectivités assiégées, selon les Nations Unies. Des attaques délibérées et répétées contre les travailleurs médicaux et humanitaires continuent de marquer le conflit et accentuent la vulnérabilité de la situation de millions de personnes, en particulier des femmes et des enfants, qui sont touchées par le conflit et qui ont peine à accéder aux services les plus essentiels. Repeated and deliberate attacks on humanitarian and medical workers continue to plague the conflict, adding to the vulnerability of millions of people, particularly women and children, who are affected by the conflict and struggle for access to the most basic services. With GAC's support, this project provides rehabilitation and access services to up to 29,400 beneficiaries. Project activities include: (1) assessment, rehabilitation, and provision of services to people with injuries; (2) provision of rehabilitation equipment and materials to partners and other health structures; (3) provision of training, technical support and coaching to partners and other health structures; and (4) provision of awareness sessions and training on inclusiveness. /Décembre 2016 – La situation humanitaire en Syrie continue de se dégrader en raison de la guerre civile. Les activités menées dans le cadre du projet comprennent : 1) la prestation de services de soins de santé primaires, secondaires, génésiques et de soins d'urgence; 2) la prestation de soins médicaux de base assurant la survie et de services de réadaptation aux personnes handicapées et aux enfants atteints de problèmes de santé chroniques; 3) la prestation de soins de santé mentale et de services psychosociaux aux populations touchées par le conflit; et 4) la prestation de soins de santé mentale, de gestion de cas, de référence, et d'autonomisation pour les femmes, filles et enfants vulnérables.

May 2018 – The humanitarian ...situation in Syria has continued to deteriorate as a result of the civil war in the country. An estimated 13.1 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance, with over 6 million internally displaced persons according to the United Nations. Years of active conflict and displacement have resulted in severe protection risks and increased vulnerability of millions of persons in Syria. Humanitarian access remains a significant challenge and repeated attacks on humanitarian and medical workers continue, adding to the complexity of the humanitarian response. With GAC's support, the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) emergency response in Syria and Lebanon is contributing to meet the needs of Palestinian refugees. Project activities include: (1) providing emergency assistance, including food, healthcare, water and protection services to meet the basic needs of up to 418,000 Palestinian refugees in Syria and up to 34,000 Palestinian refugees in Lebanon; and (2) supporting up to 48,100 Palestinian refugee children in Syria and up to 5,482 in Lebanon in continuing their school education. /Mai 2018 – La situation humanitaire en Syrie continue de se détériorer suite au conflit qui continue dans le pays. Environ 13,1 millions de personnes font face à des besoins humanitaires en Syrie, et plus de 6 millions de personnes sont déplacés à l'intérieur du pays selon les Nations Unies. Des années de conflit et de déplacement ont engendré des risques graves de protection et la vulnérabilité accrue de millions de personnes en Syrie. Humanitarian needs stemming fr...om the crises in Syria and Iraq remain significant throughout the Middle East. Continued violence in Syria raises little prospects for the voluntary, safe, sustainable and dignified return of over 5.6 million refugees in the region. Internally displaced persons range in the millions in Syria and Iraq, and refugees facing protracted displacement in host countries continue to face acute humanitarian needs in Jordan and Lebanon. With the support of GAC and other donors, the World Food Program (WFP) is providing food assistance to more than 7 million people facing malnutrition and severe food insecurity in Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria. The projectIn line with Grand Bargain commitments, GAC is providing flexible regional funding to WFP on a multiyear basis, for its emergency operations in the four countriesSyria, Iraq, Jordan and Lebanon. Regional funding provides WFP with the flexibility to allocate funds to acute humanitarian needs that are critically underfunded, and provides the flexibility to respond to emerging needs. WFP focuses on providing targeted food assistance to reduce acute malnutrition and food insecurity, and to protect livelihoods. As the global lead agency for logistics and emergency telecommunications, WFP also plays a major role in providing common services for the humanitarian community. It transports passengers undertaking humanitarian work, carries light cargo for humanitarian agencies, and carries out emergency medical and security evacuations. Project activities include: (1) distributing food; (2) supplementary feeding for children under the age of five years of age, as well as to pregnant and lactating women; (3) establishing emergency school feeding programs; (4) supplying vouchers and cash transfers for food; and (5) providing food for work. With the support of GAC and other donors, WFP is providing food assistance to more than 7 million people facing malnutrition and severe food insecurity in the four countries. /Les besoins humanitaires découlant des crises en Syrie et en Irak restent importants dans l'ensemble du Moyen-Orient. Internally displaced persons range in the millions in Syria and Iraq, and refugees facing protracted displacement in host countries continue to face acute humanitarian needs in Jordan and Lebanon. With GAC's support, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is contributing to meeting the sexual and reproductive health needs of vulnerable women and girls in sexual and reproductive health, and preventing and responding to sexual and gender-based violence. The project operates in Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria. Project activities include: (1) providing emergency obstetric care, and sexual and reproductive health services; (2) ensuring protection from and response to gender-based violence; and (3) providing health services, supplies, commodities and medication, dignity kits, and reproductive health kits to crisis-affected people. /Juin 2019 – Les besoins humanitaires découlant des crises en Syrie et en Iraq demeurent importants au Moyen-Orient. March 2019 – The United Nati...ons High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) provides international protection and assistance to the world's refugees, stateless persons, asylum seekers, and in some instances, internally-displaced persons. The UNHCR searches for lasting solutions to their situations. With the support of GAC and other donors, the project provides assistance and protection to refugees, internally-displaced persons and other persons of concern in twenty countries across the world. There is a significant gap in ...data concerning the patterns and drivers of transactional sex, sexual exploitation, and abuse in transactional sex and their implications on the sexual and reproductive health and rights of refugees. Though shrouded in secrecy, transactional sex is widespread among forcibly displaced populations. Women, men (heterosexual and homosexual) and transgender refugees resort to transactional sex for various reasons, including to meet their basic needs, raise sufficient money to continue their journey, or in exchange for security. In most cases, refugees who engage in transactional sex are at greater risk of physical and sexual violence, mental health problems, unwanted pregnancies and unsafe abortions, and HIV/sexually transmitted infections. The silence and stigma around transactional sex — especially among young women — and the poor understanding of the role of gender relations as a driver hinder access to health services and rights to health, privacy, and freedom from violence and discrimination.This comparative, multi-disciplinary, and multi-country research study will examine the gendered nature of transactional sex and the sexual and reproductive health and rights trajectories among refugee women, girls, and sexual minority persons, with the aim of developing appropriate interventions to improve policy and programmatic responses. The methodological approach will use ethnographic and qualitative methods in Lebanon, Jordan, and Turkey and will include preparing and piloting comparative quantitative surveys. The main analysis will describe the impact of transactional sex on sexual and reproductive health with a focus on needs and barriers to these services. This proposed research is part of a larger multi-country research program in Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey, Greece, and Sweden to examine the pattern and experiences of transactional sex and its sexual and reproductive health and rights implications across refugees' migration journeys originating in the Middle East, and in transit en route to desired safe destinations.The study will generate unique evidence to inform public health policies and interventions addressing transactional sex in refugee populations. September 2016 – The Syria C...risis has undermined security and stability in the Middle East and has resulted in unprecedented humanitarian needs. Now in its sixth year, the conflict in Syria has led to the worst displacement crisis in the world. Millions of internally displaced persons (IDPs), refugees, stateless persons and asylum seekers in Syria, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt and Turkey are vulnerable to violence, food and income insecurity, health risks, and sexual and gender-based violence. Canada is helping to reduce the vulnerability of millions of crisis-affected people, especially women and children, through a broad spectrum of humanitarian assistance activities across Syria and in refugee hosting countries. GAC's multi-year humanitarian support to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Iraq, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey is contributing to improved living conditions, livelihoods and protection for vulnerable populations, especially women and girls. In Egypt, project activities include: (1) improving freedom of movement for people of concern; (2) supporting the enrollment of up to 35,000 registered children in primary education; (3) providing cash assistance to people of concern; and (4) supporting the resettlement of refugees in third countries. In Jordan, project activities include: (1) providing cash assistance to Syrian refugee and asylum-seeker families; (2) providing medical referrals to secondary and tertiary care for Syrian refugees and asylum-seekers; and (3) supporting the enrollment of up to 15,000 registered non-Syrian refugee children in primary education. In Lebanon, project activities include: (1) registering up to 18,000 non-Syrian refugees; (2) supporting access to secondary and tertiary medical care for Syrian refugees and asylum seekers; (3) supporting the enrollment of up to 118,980 Syrian refugees and asylum-seekers in primary education; (4) providing basic domestic items to Syrian refugee and asylum-seeker households; and (5) providing legal assistance and protection services. In Turkey, project activities include: (1) providing psychological support to vulnerable persons; (2) providing cash-based assistance conflict-affected families; (3) providing core relief items to Syrian and Iraqi families; and (4) supporting the resettlement of up to 7,300 refugee families. However, forced displacements and conflicts strain health systems and cause significant disruptions in access to these critical services.The goal of this project is to generate and use evidence to improve the design and delivery of SRHR services among young girls and women in selected refugee camps in Uganda and Nigeria. This group is often underserved in relation to SRHR services and information. Compared to older women, they are less likely to be aware of or to have ever used a contraceptive method. The project will adopt a multidisciplinary approach, using the ecological model in health promotion to define the challenges and practical solutions underlying adolescent SRHR in Nigeria and Uganda. Working hand-in-hand, the research and program implementing organizations will contribute to a better understanding of the needs for adolescent sexual and reproductive health services and rights, and improved sexual and reproductive health and rights services for internally displaced and refugee girls and young women. The project will also offer an opportunity to develop both site-specific and cross-site insights for understanding and promoting sexual and reproductive health and rights among refugee young women and girls.

March 2018 – Uganda hosts th...e largest number of refugees in Africa, more than 1.4 million, with roughly two thirds of them having arrived from South Sudan since July 2016. This large and rapid influx has strained the humanitarian response capacity in northern Uganda to near breaking. New refugee settlements almost immediately reach full capacity, while service providers struggle to meet the most basic needs of the community. Overall, South Sudanese make up more than three quarters of the refugee population in Uganda (more than 1 million people). With GAC's support, the Canadian Lutheran World Relief (CLWR) is providing healthcare (including sexual and reproductive health), water and sanitation, protection, and livelihoods opportunities to an estimated 40,000 South Sudanese refugees and host communities in the Lamwo and Moyo districts of Uganda. Project activities include: (1) providing training, equipment and supplies to local health facilities; (2) constructing or rehabilitating household and institutional sanitation facilities; (3) awareness raising campaigns to combat sexual and gender-based violence; and (4) supporting village savings and loans associations and livelihoods training. /Mars 2018 – L'Ouganda accueille le plus grand nombre de réfugiés en Afrique (plus de 1,4million), dont environ les deux tiers arrivent du Soudan du Sud depuis juillet 2016. Cet afflux massif et rapide a poussé tout près du point de rupture la capacité d'intervention humanitaire dans le Nord de l'Ouganda. De nouveaux camps sont établis, mais ils deviennent bondés presque immédiatement, et les fournisseurs de services réussissent difficilement à répondre aux besoins les plus fondamentaux de la collectivité. De manière générale, les Soudanais du Sud représentent plus des trois quarts de la population de réfugiés en Ouganda (plus d'un million de personnes). March 2019 – The United Nati...ons High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) provides international protection and assistance to the world's refugees, stateless persons, asylum seekers, and in some instances, internally-displaced persons. The UNHCR searches for lasting solutions to their situations. With the support of GAC and other donors, the project provides assistance and protection to refugees, internally-displaced persons and other persons of concern in twenty countries across the world. Project activities include: (1) providing shelter, clothing and other essential non-food items; (2) providing adequate water, sanitation and health services, including in reproductive health; (3) providing opportunities for education and livelihoods support; (4) providing protection, including against sexual and gender-based violence, child protection and working with governments to register asylum seekers and refugees, and help issue identity documents; (5) working with governments to support refugee self-reliance and forge peaceful relations between refugees and local citizens; and (6) expanding opportunities for durable solutions for people of concern. /Mars 2019 - Le Haut-Commissariat des Nations Unies pour les réfugiés (HCR) offre une protection et une assistance internationales aux réfugiés du monde entier, aux apatrides, aux demandeurs d'asile et, dans certains cas, aux personnes déplacées à l'intérieur de leur propre pays. Le HCR cherche des solutions durables à leur situation. The International Committee of... the Red Cross' (ICRC) primary mission is to help protect the lives and dignity of people affected by conflict and other situations of violence. The ICRC provides assistance and prevents further suffering by promoting and strengthening international humanitarian law and universal humanitarian principles. With the support of GAC and other donors, the ICRC's humanitarian operations aim to provide protection, emergency relief, and other essential services to people affected by armed conflict and other situations of violence, as well as to promote respect for international humanitarian law. Project activities include: (1) providing medical care, access to water and sanitation facilities, food assistance and livelihoods support; (2) providing Red Cross/Red Crescent National Societies with technical expertise to strengthen their capacity in areas such as promoting international humanitarian law, restoring family links, and delivering relief in situations of armed conflict and violence; and (3) ensuring that international humanitarian law is respected in the treatment of civilians not taking part in hostilities, as well as for detainees. /Le Comité international de la Croix-Rouge (CICR) a pour mission première de contribuer à protéger la vie et la dignité des personnes touchées par les conflits et autres situations de violence. August 2014 - The humanitarian... situation in Iraq continues to deteriorate as armed clashes continue to drive displacement. The recent surge in violence between armed groups and government forces has displaced an estimated 1.3 million people from their homes. Basic services, including health care and water infrastructure, are disrupted and cause an estimated 1.5 million people to be in need of immediate humanitarian assistance. Iraqi Kurdistan is hosting an additional 230,000 Syrian refugees, which is also placing a great strain on local infrastructure. The situation is expected to deteriorate as fighting and human rights violations persist. This project is helping to reduce the vulnerability of internally displaced people affected by the civil unrest in Iraq. Project activities include: (1) providing food assistance to up to 342,000 people and essential household items, such as hygiene kits, cooking materials, blankets and tents, to up to 240,000 people; (2) rehabilitating essential water and sanitation facilities, such as drinking water stations and latrines, benefiting 1 million people; (3) assisting health facilities through the provision of medical supplies, training for medical professionals and physical rehabilitation services; and (4) promoting respect for humanitarian principles and international humanitarian law with Iraqi authorities and other influential actors. /Août 2014 – La situation humanitaire en Irak continue de se détériorer, alors que des affrontements armés entraînent le déplacement. March 2019 – The United Nati...ons High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) provides international protection and assistance to the world's refugees, stateless persons, asylum seekers, and in some instances, internally-displaced persons. The UNHCR searches for lasting solutions to their situations. With the support of GAC and other donors, the project provides assistance and protection to refugees, internally-displaced persons and other persons of concern in twenty countries across the world. Project activities include: (1) providing shelter, clothing and other essential non-food items; (2) providing adequate water, sanitation and health services, including in reproductive health; (3) providing opportunities for education and livelihoods support; (4) providing protection, including against sexual and gender-based violence, child protection and working with governments to register asylum seekers and refugees, and help issue identity documents; (5) working with governments to support refugee self-reliance and forge peaceful relations between refugees and local citizens; and (6) expanding opportunities for durable solutions for people of concern. /Mars 2019 - Le Haut-Commissariat des Nations Unies pour les réfugiés (HCR) offre une protection et une assistance internationales aux réfugiés du monde entier, aux apatrides, aux demandeurs d'asile et, dans certains cas, aux personnes déplacées à l'intérieur de leur propre pays. March 2019 - Yemen is currentl...y the world's largest humanitarian crisis, with 24.1 million people in need of humanitarian assistance, including 14.3 million that require immediate life-saving assistance. The conflict and collapsing economy has pushed nearly 10 million people to the brink of famine, and a total of 4.3 million people have been displaced over the last four years. Yemen is also facing one of the worst cholera epidemics in recorded history, as well as a diphtheria outbreak, the scale of which is compounded by the dire state of water, sanitation and hygiene infrastructure and health services. Nearly half of the health facilities have been destroyed or are only partially functioning, stocks of medical supplies are low, and many health professionals are working for free or receiving substantially reduced wages. Women and girls are disproportionately affected by the lack of access to essential services and face an increased risk of sexual and gender-based violence due to the crisis. With GAC's support, the Yemen Humanitarian Pooled Fund channels resources to humanitarian partners to respond to the critical needs of conflict-affected populations, providing much needed flexibility in a rapidly evolving context. Project activities include: (1) providing needs-based assistance in accordance with humanitarian principles; (2) strengthening the coordination and coherence of humanitarian assistance; (3) funding priority sectors as identified under the Humanitarian Response Plan; and (4) expanding the delivery of humanitarian assistance in hard-to-reach areas by partnering with local and international non-governmental organizations. /Mars 2019 – La crise du Yémen est actuellement la plus grave au monde, avec 24,1 millions de personnes nécessitant une aide humanitaire, dont 14,3 millions d'une aide immédiate vitale. Le CICR apporte un soutien aux personnes touchées et aide à prévenir d'autres souffrances au moyen de la promotion et du renforcement du droit international humanitaire et des principes humanitaires universels. Avec le soutien d'AMC et d'autres donateurs, les opérations d'urgence du CICR visent à offrir une protection, des secours d'urgence et d'autres services essentiels aux personnes touchées par des conflits armés et d'autres situations de violence, de même qu'à promouvoir le respect pour le droit international humanitaire. Les activités de ce projet comprennent : 1) offrir des soins médicaux, l'accès à l'eau et aux installations d'approvisionnement en eau, une aide alimentaire et un soutien aux moyens de subsistance; 2) fournir une expertise technique aux Sociétés nationales de la Croix-Rouge et du Croissant-Rouge pour renforcer leurs capacités dans des domaines tels que la promotion du droit international humanitaire, le rétablissement des liens familiaux et la prestation de services de secours dans les situations de conflit armé et de violence; 3) s'assurer que le droit international humanitaire soit respecté dans le traitement des civils qui ne prennent pas part aux hostilités, ainsi que pour les détenus.

May 2018 - Yemen is currently ...the world's largest humanitarian crisis according to the United Nations, with 22.2 million people in need of humanitarian assistance, including 11.3 million that require immediate life-saving assistance. Sixty percent of the population (17.8 million people) is food insecure, with 8.4 million people on the brink of famine. Malnutrition has soared by over 65% in 2017, and an estimated 400,000 children under five years of age are suffering from severe acute malnutrition. More than 3 million people have been displaced and basic service provision is collapsing. Yemen is currently facing a diphtheria outbreak with over 1,500 suspected cases, and could face another wave of cholera with the beginning of its rainy season in April. In 2017, it was afflicted by one of the largest cholera outbreaks ever recorded, with over 1 million suspected cases and 2,200 deaths reported. Many health facilities have been destroyed or have stopped functioning. Humanitarian access remains a significant challenge. With GAC's multi-year support, CARE Canada is providing emergency water, sanitation, hygiene, reproductive health services and livelihoods support to up to 65,877 of the most vulnerable conflict-affected people, particularly women, in the Taiz governorate of Yemen. Project activities include: (1) providing cash assistance to enable beneficiaries to meet their basic needs; (2) rehabilitating or establishing water sources and latrines in rural communities; (3) providing hygiene and dignity kits; and (4) training community health workers and providing medical supplies to promote sexual and reproductive health services. /Mai 2018 – Le Yémen constitue actuellement, selon les Nations Unies, la plus importante crise humanitaire au monde, avec 22,2 millions de personnes ayant besoin d'une aide humanitaire, dont 11,3 millions exigeant une assistance vitale immédiate. During conflicts, natural disa...sters and other complex emergencies, sexual and reproductive health needs must not be overlooked. It is essential to ensure life-saving interventions as related to sexual and reproductive health services, and protection from and response to sexual and gender-based violence are provided. With GAC's support, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is contributing to meeting the sexual and reproductive health needs of vulnerable women and girls in sexual and reproductive health, and preventing and responding to sexual and gender-based violence. UNFPA will operate in Bangladesh, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Nigeria, Libya, and Yemen. Project activities include: (1) providing emergency obstetric care, and sexual and reproductive health services; (2) ensuring protection from and response to gender-based violence; and (3) providing health services, supplies, commodities and medication, dignity kits, and reproductive health kits to crisis-affected people. /Pendant les conflits, les catastrophes naturelles et autres situations d'urgence complexes, les besoins en matière de santé sexuelle et reproductive ne doivent pas être négligés. Il est essentiel de veiller à ce que les services de santé sexuelle et génésique permettent de sauver des vies et à ce que la protection contre la violence sexuelle et sexiste et les interventions contre ce phénomène soient assurées. Avec le soutien d'AMC, le Fonds des Nations Unies pour la population (FNUP) contribue à répondre aux besoins des femmes et des filles vulnérables en matière de santé sexuelle et génésique et à prévenir la violence sexuelle et sexiste et à y répondre. January 2019 - Founded in 1946..., the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) is mandated by the United Nation General Assembly to protect the rights of children and women in developing countries through its development and humanitarian assistance programming. UNICEF's mandate in humanitarian situations is to meet the needs of the most vulnerable, to save lives and protect rights. In humanitarian emergencies, UNICEF's project activities include: (1) providing people with access to safe drinking water and sanitation facilities; (2) treating children for severe acute malnutrition; (3) providing emergency education programming for children; (4) ensuring protection services for children and women; and (5) providing basic healthcare. /Janvier 2019 – Fondé en 1946, le Fonds des Nations Unies pour l'enfance (UNICEF) est mandaté par l'Assemblée générale des Nations Unies pour protéger les droits des enfants et des femmes dans les pays en développement par le biais de ses programmes d'aide humanitaire et de développement.
