more
|
International Planned Parentho...od Federation (IPPF) SPRINT Stage 2 is designed to address sexual and reproductive health gaps in minimum standards and increase access to sexual and reproductive health information and services for people in crisis and post-crisis situations. This initiative builds on the work of SPRINT Stage 1 with a more refined set of objectives and greater focus on Disaster Risk Reduction and Emergency Preparedness and targets the reduction of death and disability among women of reproductive age in developing countries (contributing to the health related MDGs 4, 5 and 6). The design is narrowed to focus on a set number of priority countries in each geographic region. This will provide for more in-depth technical support and funding based on identified needs in the area of emergency preparedness, response and early recovery. The total value of this initiative is $10.0 million over 3 years, starting 2011-12.

Funding under this initiative ...provides assistance to address the needs of conflict and disaster affected people from Burma living in refugee camps on the Thai-Burma border and humanitarian assistance to displaced people within Burma as needs arise. Specifically, the initiative will provide: basic health care and education for refugees on the Thai-Burma border; food assistance to the most vulnerable households; training and livelihood support in preparation for a safe and voluntary return home when conditions permit; access to information so refugees are able to make informed decisions about their future; and increased integration of service delivery components with the Myanmar Government and/or international non-government organisations' services. The initiative also includes the provision of support to the UN OCHA as a contingency fund for emergency response activities in Burma. The total value of this initiative is $28.0 million over 3 years, starting 2013-14.
