Background: For the 2017-2021 ...program, the Damien Foundation (DF) will continue to focus on the early detection and correct treatment of leprosy and Tuberculosis (TB) patients, including the multi-drug resistant (MDR) TB patients. This will be achieved through an increased collaboration with the National Program, the private sector and the community. Special attention will be paid to organise efficient TB detection, treatment and follow-up in the industrialised areas bordering the DF working area. Mainly women are employed in the garment industries and therefore belong to the most vulnerable key populations, which necessitates actions set-up conjointly and in synergy with the private sector and other stakeholders. Because of its renowned expertise in the field of MDR-TB, the DF will collaborate with the National Program and operational Non-governmental (NGOs) for the training and expansion of the highly effective Bangladesh regimen endorsed by World Health Organization (WHO) to other areas in the country. The unique set-up, in combination with the expertise acquired over the years, make the DF Bangladesh an ideal partner to conduct operational research and studies. This will take place in further collaboration with the Institute of Tropical Medicine (ITM), Antwerp and the International Union against Tuberculosis and Lung disease (UNION).

Background: General objectives...: The general objective of this project is to continue support the National TB Program and Maputo City health authorities to increase TB detection rates in Maputo City. The secondary objective is to create a same day results GeneXpert testing center that backs up the existing network in Maputo and can be taken over by government entities at the end of the project period. -- Specific objectives:1. To evaluate sensitivity of APOPO TB detection technology against the newly deployed GeneXpert molecular testing tool, using sputum samples from TB suspected patients in clinics of the City of Maputo.2. To determine if the observed TB detection rate increase as a direct consequence of APOPO TB detection technology utilization is maintained when compared to GeneXpert testing.3. To determine if rat indications on samples otherwise negative on GeneXpert tests is a predictor for future development of active TB disease.4. To develop new patient registry and follow up systems that ensure increased TB detection rates lead to appropriately higher numbers of patients initiating and completing TB treatment.5. To develop a new clinical manual for TB Detection Rat Care, based on operational research data from different APOPO sites. -- Specific purpose: 1. Increase in TB detection rates is kept in the range of 35-45%. -- 2. Treatment initiation rates are at least 85%. -- 3. Guidelines for patient registry and follow up are produced and implemented in routine operations, ensuring that a maximum number of newly diagnosed patients are put on treatment and complete the anti-TB course. -- 4. The utility of the rats to identify patients with latent TB and high risk of developing active TB disease is determined. -- 5. A clinical manual for Detection Rats care is prepared and distributed to all of APOPO global TB program. --

Background: For the 2017-2021 ...program, the Damien Foundation (DF) will continue to focus on the early detection and correct treatment of leprosy and Tuberculosis (TB) patients, including the multi-drug resistant (MDR) TB patients. This will be achieved through an increased collaboration with the National Program, the private sector and the community. Special attention will be paid to organise efficient TB detection, treatment and follow-up in the industrialised areas bordering the DF working area. Mainly women are employed in the garment industries and therefore belong to the most vulnerable key populations, which necessitates actions set-up conjointly and in synergy with the private sector and other stakeholders. Because of its renowned expertise in the field of MDR-TB, the DF will collaborate with the National Program and operational Non-governmental (NGOs) for the training and expansion of the highly effective Bangladesh regimen endorsed by World Health Organization (WHO) to other areas in the country. The unique set-up, in combination with the expertise acquired over the years, make the DF Bangladesh an ideal partner to conduct operational research and studies. This will take place in further collaboration with the Institute of Tropical Medicine (ITM), Antwerp and the International Union against Tuberculosis and Lung disease (UNION).

Background: The project's main... objective is to strengthen Covid-19 diagnostic capacity in Southern Mozambique by Xpert testing for SARS-COV-2 in support of the public health system and special populations, while maintaining integrated TB diagnostic services.The project is looking at making rapid molecular (using GeneXpert platforms) testing more efficient by heat inactivation and pooling of samples and to determine the respective test performance after these steps.The operational objectives are:1. The plan outlines activities towards the prevention and treatment of tuberculosis across the world, including details such as costs, locations and implementing organizations. Activities include: (1) Developing an implementation plan based on up to 10 country profiles and 10 regional profiles; (2) holding stakeholder, civil society and web-based consultations; and (3) hiring research and writing consultants to coordinate inputs and draft the Plan. / Ce projet contribue aux efforts mondiaux visant l éradication de la tuberculose au moyen d un appui au partenariat Halte à la tuberculose de l Organisation mondiale de la santé (OMS). Il a pour but l élaboration et la production du Plan mondial Halte à la tuberculose (2016-2020), qui oriente les pays, les partenaires et les donateurs dans l établissement de mesures prioritaires en vue de l objectif à long terme, soit l éradication de la tuberculose. This project aims to increase ...knowledge on the impact of tuberculosis in mine-workers communities of origin to ultimately reduce the spread of the disease. Given that rates of tuberculosis among miners are 20 to 30 times that of the average population (as of 2010), and given that miners are often migrant labourers, understanding the linkages between tuberculosis and the mining sector is key to stemming the spread of the disease overall. The project undertakes an analysis of the burden of tuberculosis in mine-workers communities of origin, based on in-country data collection. This high-level, policy relevant analysis is key to making informed programming decisions and to mobilizing global resources. The analysis also outlines public-private partnership interventions which may be taken on by global health actors to address the challenge of tuberculosis in mining communities in a comprehensive fashion. The project has two phases: (1) consolidating available evidence and high-level analysis, and mapping ongoing efforts, identifying potential interventions; and (2) filling gaps with primary data, broadening the list of interventions, capturing best practices and estimating their potential costs. / Ce projet vise à accroître les connaissances sur l impact de la tuberculose dans les communautés d origine des travailleurs miniers afin de réduire la propagation de la maladie. Étant donné que les taux de tuberculose chez les mineurs sont de 20 à 30 fois celui de la population en général (en date de 2010), et puisque les mineurs sont souvent des travailleurs migrants, la compréhension des liens entre la tuberculose et le secteur minier est essentielle pour enrayer la propagation globale de la maladie. Le projet procède à une analyse de l incidence de la tuberculose dans les communautés d origine des travailleurs miniers, à partir de collecte de données disponibles dans les pays ciblés. Cette analyse est fondamentale pour la prise de décision éclairée et la programmation pour la mobilisation des ressources mondiales. L analyse identifie également des interventions de partenariat public-privé qui peuvent être prises par les acteurs mondiaux de la santé pour relever le défi de la tuberculose dans les communautés minières. Le projet comporte deux phases : 1) la consolidation de données disponibles et l analyse de haut niveau, la cartographie des efforts en cours ainsi que l identification des interventions possibles; 2) l enrichissement des lacunes avec des données primaires, l élargissement de la liste des interventions , capturant les meilleures pratiques et l estimation de leurs coûts potentiels .

This project aims to increase ...knowledge on the impact of tuberculosis in mine-workers communities of origin to ultimately reduce the spread of the disease. Given that rates of tuberculosis among miners are 20 to 30 times that of the average population (as of 2010), and given that miners are often migrant labourers, understanding the linkages between tuberculosis and the mining sector is key to stemming the spread of the disease overall. The project undertakes an analysis of the burden of tuberculosis in mine-workers communities of origin, based on in-country data collection. This high-level, policy relevant analysis is key to making informed programming decisions and to mobilizing global resources. The analysis also outlines public-private partnership interventions which may be taken on by global health actors to address the challenge of tuberculosis in mining communities in a comprehensive fashion. The project has two phases: (1) consolidating available evidence and high-level analysis, and mapping ongoing efforts, identifying potential interventions; and (2) filling gaps with primary data, broadening the list of interventions, capturing best practices and estimating their potential costs. / Ce projet vise à accroître les connaissances sur l impact de la tuberculose dans les communautés d origine des travailleurs miniers afin de réduire la propagation de la maladie. Étant donné que les taux de tuberculose chez les mineurs sont de 20 à 30 fois celui de la population en général (en date de 2010), et puisque les mineurs sont souvent des travailleurs migrants, la compréhension des liens entre la tuberculose et le secteur minier est essentielle pour enrayer la propagation globale de la maladie. Le projet procède à une analyse de l incidence de la tuberculose dans les communautés d origine des travailleurs miniers, à partir de collecte de données disponibles dans les pays ciblés. Cette analyse est fondamentale pour la prise de décision éclairée et la programmation pour la mobilisation des ressources mondiales. L analyse identifie également des interventions de partenariat public-privé qui peuvent être prises par les acteurs mondiaux de la santé pour relever le défi de la tuberculose dans les communautés minières. This project contributes to gl...obal efforts to eradicate tuberculosis by supporting the Stop Tuberculosis Partnership of the World Health Organization (WHO). It aims to develop and produce the Global Plan to Stop Tuberculosis (2016-2020) which guides countries, partners and donors in the prioritization of actions towards the long-term goal of eradicating tuberculosis. The plan outlines activities towards the prevention and treatment of tuberculosis across the world, including details such as costs, locations and implementing organizations. Activities include: (1) Developing an implementation plan based on up to 10 country profiles and 10 regional profiles; (2) holding stakeholder, civil society and web-based consultations; and (3) hiring research and writing consultants to coordinate inputs and draft the Plan. / Ce projet contribue aux efforts mondiaux visant l éradication de la tuberculose au moyen d un appui au partenariat Halte à la tuberculose de l Organisation mondiale de la santé (OMS). Il a pour but l élaboration et la production du Plan mondial Halte à la tuberculose (2016-2020), qui oriente les pays, les partenaires et les donateurs dans l établissement de mesures prioritaires en vue de l objectif à long terme, soit l éradication de la tuberculose. Ce plan expose les activités de prévention et de traitement de la tuberculose dans le monde, y compris des détails tels que les coûts, les lieux et les organisations de mise en oeuvre. This project aims to increase ...knowledge on the impact of tuberculosis in mine-workers communities of origin to ultimately reduce the spread of the disease. Given that rates of tuberculosis among miners are 20 to 30 times that of the average population (as of 2010), and given that miners are often migrant labourers, understanding the linkages between tuberculosis and the mining sector is key to stemming the spread of the disease overall. The project undertakes an analysis of the burden of tuberculosis in mine-workers communities of origin, based on in-country data collection. This high-level, policy relevant analysis is key to making informed programming decisions and to mobilizing global resources. The analysis also outlines public-private partnership interventions which may be taken on by global health actors to address the challenge of tuberculosis in mining communities in a comprehensive fashion. The project has two phases: (1) consolidating available evidence and high-level analysis, and mapping ongoing efforts, identifying potential interventions; and (2) filling gaps with primary data, broadening the list of interventions, capturing best practices and estimating their potential costs. / Ce projet vise à accroître les connaissances sur l impact de la tuberculose dans les communautés d origine des travailleurs miniers afin de réduire la propagation de la maladie. Étant donné que les taux de tuberculose chez les mineurs sont de 20 à 30 fois celui de la population en général (en date de 2010), et puisque les mineurs sont souvent des travailleurs migrants, la compréhension des liens entre la tuberculose et le secteur minier est essentielle pour enrayer la propagation globale de la maladie. Le projet procède à une analyse de l incidence de la tuberculose dans les communautés d origine des travailleurs miniers, à partir de collecte de données disponibles dans les pays ciblés. Cette analyse est fondamentale pour la prise de décision éclairée et la programmation pour la mobilisation des ressources mondiales. L analyse identifie également des interventions de partenariat public-privé qui peuvent être prises par les acteurs mondiaux de la santé pour relever le défi de la tuberculose dans les communautés minières. Le projet comporte deux phases : 1) la consolidation de données disponibles et l analyse de haut niveau, la cartographie des efforts en cours ainsi que l identification des interventions possibles; 2) l enrichissement des lacunes avec des données primaires, l élargissement de la liste des interventions , capturant les meilleures pratiques et l estimation de leurs coûts potentiels .
