Malaria control through rapid ...and massive scale up of prevention, early diagnosis and effective treatment in Myanmar
more
|
Malaria is one of the top thre...e priority public health problems in Myanmar. The program supported by this grant aims to reduce Malaria morbidity and mortality by at least 50 percent by 2015 and to contribute towards socio-economic development and the Millennium Development Goals. The proposal was based on the National Strategic Plan (NSP) for Malaria prevention and control, following international best practices. The proposal is implemented based on a Dual Track Financing scheme; it builds on and takes into account lessons learned from existing national Malaria Control Program and from the Malaria projects of other partners. The program targets the population at risk of Malaria in the areas of programme implementation and high risks groups including migrant workers and communities in remote poorly served populations. The objective of this grant is to prevent Malaria using long lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs) and insecticide-treated mosquito nets (ITNs) in high and moderate-risk villages in 180 townships and strengthen technical and administrative management capacity for Malaria control at all levels. The activities focus on the provision of prompt, effective anti-Malaria treatment and implementation of Behaviour Change Communication (BCC) to maximize appropriate use of ITNs and LLINs and early access to diagnosis and effective treatment.

no indication that child nutri...tion was specifically included -> The specific objectives of the initiative are to:
• Enhance the ability of DFID to identify and measure the results of its investments in nutrition-related interventions, and in turn to communicate those results to others
• Help address important gaps that exist in knowledge of which nutrition interventions are most effective, and how they can best be provided at sufficient scale to the populations that need them
• Support Civil Society Organisations in strengthening their own ability to carry out effective evaluations of their nutrition-related interventions.

SUSTAINABLE WATER SUPPLY IN SU...B-BASIN OF YONGOMA RIVER.
more
|
Sustainable water supply in su...b-basin of Yongoma river.
more
|

23. The project is structured ...around five pillars that will deliver the following outputs:
(a) Improved nutrition governance: at the national level, the project will build capacity in key line ministries to plan and deliver nutrition specific or sensitive services. It will also undertake advocacy activities to promote stronger government leadership and support for multi-sectoral action on undernutrition in Bangladesh, in particular focusing on the scale up and replication of the Suchana model. At the sub-national level, the project will build local government capacity to plan, coordinate and monitor nutrition service delivery.
(b) Improved access and utilisation of nutrition services: the project will provide training and technical support to improve nutrition service delivery of government frontline workers, in particular health workers and agricultural extension officers. At the same time it will build community awareness and demand for quality nutrition-related services.
(c) Better nutrition through improved economic status: under this component the project will provide productive assets and training to extreme poor households and promote effective market systems, so poor households have a sustainable income and can afford a nutritious diet. It will promote home production of nutritious food to build household resilience and improve diets.
(d) Increase women and communities’ knowledge, skills and power to practice and sustain optimal nutrition behaviour (including exclusive breastfeeding and optimal complementary feeding; delayed marriage and pregnancy and girls’ continued education): the project will work together with government frontline workers to promote social behaviour change drawing on a range of proven community and household mobilisation and training methods, including community theatre, work with peer groups, participatory video and radio.
(e) Generating robust evidence to support scale-up: the project interventions will be implemented as a randomised control trial with a control group that will receive the intervention in the second half of the project. A combination of quantitative and qualitative research will generate robust evidence on the cost and value of scaling-up similar multi-sectoral interventions in the future.

no indication that child nutri...tion was specifically included -> The specific objectives of the initiative are to:
• Enhance the ability of DFID to identify and measure the results of its investments in nutrition-related interventions, and in turn to communicate those results to others
• Help address important gaps that exist in knowledge of which nutrition interventions are most effective, and how they can best be provided at sufficient scale to the populations that need them
• Support Civil Society Organisations in strengthening their own ability to carry out effective evaluations of their nutrition-related interventions.

This is business case 2/3 whic...h implements the DFID Humanitarian Innovation and Evidence Strategy. This programme will develop and test innovative approaches to humanitarian practice; provide evidence of the cost effectiveness of investments in disaster risk reduction; provide new evidence on the scaling up of cash-based approaches; support better evidence on insurance as a risk management tool; and create new evidence on the best intervention to improve health and nutrition in emergencies. This is one of three business cases which implements the DFID Humanitarian Innovation and Evidence Strategy. Between 2000-2009, more than 2.2 billion people were affected by 4,484 natural disasters. Vulnerability to hazards is increasing as a result of demographic, political and environmental changes. Demand for humanitarian assistance is likely to rise while economic constraints are also increasing. In this context it is important to ensure that the most effective and cost efficient approch

The SDNP will support countrie...s (1) to improve analysis and use of nutrition-related data to track progress and to inform evidence-based policies, (2) to address critical data gaps with the objective of ensuring countries get on track to achieve global targets for nutrition. It will also promote accountability for achieving nutrition targets by supporting the Global Nutrition Report from 2017 onwards when the current DFID-funded Driving Delivery for N4G Commitments programme comes to an end. Committing funding for this initiative now will guarantee DFID has direct influence over the direction and focus on this critical accountability tool for nutrition.
