Save the Children proposes a p...roject that will work towards improving Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights as a way of addressing some root causes of HIV/AIDS. The intervention will be responding to Sexual and Reproduction Health and Rights (SRHR) challenges faced by children, adolescents and generally young people in the Eastern and Southern Africa (ESA) region. Young people in the ESA region continue to grapple with different health issues including those related to HIV and SRHR. And with recent studies showing the intricate link between HIV and SRHR, both of them key contributors to mortality and morbidity amongst young people, there is need for well- designed interventions to address these two areas among young people. The project will work towards mitigating or providing an enabling environment for the mitigation of issues hampering young people's good health which include: disconcertingly high HIV burden among young people especially girls; weak and fragmented health and social care systems which are vertical and insensitive to the needs of children and young people; low HIV testing, and a critical barrier to youth accessing care and treatment; low contraception rates for young people; high adolescent fertility; early sexual debut amongst adolescents; high prevalence of risky behaviour including unprotected sex, multiple concurrent partnerships, transactional and intergenerational sexual relations; inadequate sexuality information and knowledge; high rates of unintended pregnancies amongst girls; high levels of maternal mortality among young mothers; early marriages for young women and girls; and a reluctance and sometimes inability of parents and caregivers to communicate with children all aspects of sexuality, and thus a lack of SRHR education for all ages. The project will invest in building processes that will lead to the provision of relevant, quality, accessible and comprehensive SRHR and HIV information and services mostly for young people to improve the situation above. The Project goal is : improved SRHR/HIV outcomes for children and young people in Eastern and Southern Africa. To reach this goal, the Project will have the following objectives:(i) To promote the SRHR of children, adolescents and young people through the provision of comprehensive sexuality education, with a focus on gender sensitive approaches(ii) To increase access of Children, adolescents and young people to clinical and non-clinical SRHR services including Community based services.(iii) To create an enabling legislative and policy environment through advocating legislation that promotes the realisation of the SRHR of Children, adolescents and young people in the selected countries and at regional level.(iv) To improve the management of tacit knowledge and shared Learning around SRHR at regional level. The project will work in eight (8) countries in the East and Southern Africa (ESA) region. The countries are Kenya, Malawi, South Af

REPSSI has submitted a funding... application of SEK 45 000 000 to Sida as a contribution towards REPSSI's 2016-2020 Strategic Implementation Plan. The overall goal of the intervention is the improved psychosocial and mental well-being of girls, boys and youth in East and Southern Africa. Aligned to this goal are the following expected outcomes (i) Improved capacity among adolescents to make informed decisions about their SRHR; (ii) Increased demand and use of SRHR services by adolescents; (iii) Increased initiation, retention on treatment for children, adolescents and youth who are living with HIV; (iv) Evidence based psychosocial support models for improving health outcomes among adolescents living with HIV developed; (v) Reduced gender-based violence amongst adolescents; and (vii) Reduced incidence of child marriage. REPSSI's regional approach generates synergies through methods development, experience sharing and policy advocacy at regional level. The total budget for REPSSI's Strategic Implementation Plan is approximately SEK 202,600.000 for the five-year period. Sida's contribution will cover approximately 35% of the annual budget for the first three years. Additional funding of approximately 25% will be provided by Switzerland through SDC. Comic Relief and USAID have committed about SEK 10 000 000 (5%) in project financing for 2016 while REPSSI's own mobilised resources cover approximately 6% of the budget. While 2016 is fully financed, REPSSI is mobilising additional resources for the coming years.

UNICEF - Support to UNICEF Cou...ntry Program in DRC 2018-2021
more
|
UNICEF has submitted an applic...ation for support to its country program. This contribution is a consolidated support to the implementation of UNICEF country program in DRC, focusing on three thematic areas: health, protection of children who previously were involved with in armed groups and strengthening vulnerable societies' capacity to withstand recurrent crises (resilience). The contribution is in line with the priorities of Sweden's Development Cooperation Strategy with DRC 2021-2025- specifically areas 2: Equitable health and nutrition, result area 3: Inclusive and sustainable communities as well as our cross-cutting focus resilience/nexus by strengthening the resilience of vulnerable groups and societies. This support will specifically contribute to improved access to high-quality care for children and pregnant women. Explicitly, the contribution's results concern improved vaccination coverage, access to basic drugs to treat diarrhea, pneumonia and malaria at community levels, water and sanitation, and the strengthening of health systems for sustainability of the results. Attention to young women and adolescents' SRHR needs (including menstrual hygiene) is emphasized more than ever, in line with UNICEF Gender Action Plan (GAP) 2018-2021.Children released from armed groups will have access to psychosocial assistance and be given support to reintegrate their communities, resume their education or engage in economic activities. The contribution will also help strengthen resilience or reduce vulnerability (health / nutrition, education, conflict transformation / reconciliation, water and sanitation, etc.) among internally displaced persons and local populations so that they can better prevent or cope with further crises in the future.UNICEF's country program in DRC covered initially the period 2013-2017, it was then extended until 2019. The current program covers the period 2020-2024, and is based on UNICEF's global Strategic Plan 2018-2021 adopted by UNICEF's Board in 2017. The priority areas of the UNICEF country program are health, protection of vulnerable children (protection), education and humanitarian assistance and resilience.Sida previously supported UNICEF DRC through three different contributions: one thematic support for health, one project's support for child protection and another for resilience. This contribution is a consolidated model and has gradually gathered all Swedish support to UNICEF DRC country program. This modality aims to increase both ??flexibility (easier planning and reinforcing synergies between interventions in the focus areas on the partner's side), but also cost-effectiveness by enabling better utilization of resources (including reduced administrative staff time and cost, joint follow-up and dialogue meetings, etc.) for both UNICEF and the Embassy. In 2018, this support was directed to health, whereas in 2019 both health and protection of children associated with armed conflict will be supported. From 2020 the

Rädda Barnen frame 2017-2021
|
The application is based on Sa...ve the Children Sweden's strategy for 2017-2024 and is a continuation of the 2016 framework programme with a small adjustment of country and regional foci. Thematically the focus areas continues to be Child Protection and Child Rights Governance. The framework programme is suggested to be implemented in 15 countries, seven regional and five global programs - these are also primarily a continuation of the activities of previous years. Geographically the main focus is on Africa, followed by Asia, the Middle East and Europe & Latin America. Around 200 local civil society organisations will be included in the contribution - as both beneficiaries and implementers.

Save the Children Country Stra...tegic Plan 2019-2021
more
|
The intervention (Save the Chi...ldren Country Strategic Plan 2019-2021) intends to reach 722,950 most deprived children in ten regions in Tanzania i.e. (Dar es Salaam, Dodoma, Katavi, Kigoma, Shinyanga, Singida, Songwe, Rukwa, Tabora, and Zanzibar) by 2021 with various services i.e. child protection, health and nutrition, education, and good governance. It will also engage with 32,300 stakeholders in monitoring and demanding child rights, promoting coordinated actions for child protection systems, providing basic education and participating in discussions on public investment in children. Furthermore, it will work to ensure that policies and national resources established as an outcome of its programming are designed to benefit the most deprived. SC intends to measure its results in terms of the tangible improvements it makes in the lives of the most deprived children. For example,in the previous phase of support, Save the Children has played an important role in building public awareness on the issue of child marriage at community level. Therefore based on the experience from previous support the Embassy is developing a new support to Save the Children. Furthermore, based on results seen during the previous phase of support 2016 - 2018, the Embassy is developing this support before the External Evaluation of the SC Country Strategic Plan 2016-2018 has been completed. The recommendations from the external evaluation will be followed up during followup dialogue with the organisation.Save the Children developed its Theory of Change framework by combining 4 pillars in order to create impact for children in all its programmes. The four pillars of the Theory of Change are:1) Save the Children (SC) aims to be the Voice of advocating and campaigning for better practices and policies to fulfill childrens rights and to ensure that childrens voices are heard. Save the Children is an organisation fighting to acheive children's rights, particularly for the poorest and most marginalised children, who are at risks of their rights being denied.2) Save the children will be the Innovator for developing and providing evidence based, replicable solutions to problems facing children. The organisation intends to promote durable soultions, including innovative approaches that create breakthrough improvements for children at national and community level. This requires testing interventions, documenting results and evaluating impact, so that the work contributes to global evidence about how to acheive important changes for children.3) Save the Children aims to acheive results at scale by supporting effective implementation of best practices, programs and policies for children, by leveraging knowledge to ensure sustainable impact at scale. This will be done by engaging other change agents, and by encouraging an environment conducive to positive development.4) Save the Children will build partnerships through collaborating with children, civil society organisations, communi

3 Regional Centres Paediatric ...Care Services Reform

|

Regionalization of the Pediatr...ic Emergency and Intensive Care Services in Moldova
more
|
Despite improvement over the l...ast years, the infant mortality rate in Moldova is still more than double compared to the European Union average. With this project Switzerland is pursuing the support to the Republic of Moldova aiming at increasing the efficiency of the pediatric emergency healthcare in Moldova. At the end of the project, all children aged 0-18 in Moldova will have access to high quality pediatric emergency services. In addition, awareness on how to prevent accidents and on the correct procedures in case of an emergency will be raised at the community level.

Founded by Dr. Beat Richner in... 1992, the five Kantha Bopha Hospitals (KBH) provide in 2016 free of charge health services for children and expecting mothers, and cover around 60–85 % of all sick children in Cambodia. Given their broad coverage and their status as Governmental University hospitals, KBH are a crucial actor in the Cambodian health sector.
|

While their long term financial sustainability is a concern, it is SDC's objective through this proposal to address the matter.
