Applying Science to Strengthen... and Improve Systems (ASSIST) - Administration and Oversight
more
|
The objective of the USAID App...lying Science to Strengthen and Improve Systems (ASSIST) Project is to improve the quality and outcomes of health care and other services by enabling host country providers and managers to apply the science of improvement. The project seeks to build the capacity of host country service delivery organizations in USAID-assisted countries to improve the effectiveness, efficiency, client-centeredness, safety, accessibility, and equity of the health and family services they provide. USAID ASSIST also seeks to institutionalize the capacity to improve through competency development at the pre- and in-service levels as well as engaging with host country governments at the policy level.

ASSIST builds on the work of the USAID Health Care Improvement Project, which provided technical assistance in 38 countries from 2007-2014.
From October 2012 to September 2017, ASSIST operated in 38 countries, supporting quality improvement efforts for HIV, maternal and child health, malaria, tuberculosis, orphans and vulnerable children, and non-communicable disease services at both facility and community levels. During the current extension period (2017-2019), ASSIST is applying quality improvement methods to health systems strengthening efforts in Zika-affected countries, including the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Jamaica, Nicaragua, Paraguay, and Peru.

The West African Health Organi...zation (WAHO) is a regional institution with the mandate to coordinate and harmonize health policies across the 15 member states of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). In line with USAID Forward reform, USAID/West Africa will support WAHO to strengthen its capacity to lead health efforts in the region. FY 2014 funds will support: strategic planning to align WAHO with the ECOWAS planning process; operationalizing WAHO's health information policy in the 15 member states; operationalizing WAHO's advocacy and communications strategies; continuing a regional forum for best practices in health in West Africa; developing a strategy to engage the private sector on mobile health; strengthening partnerships with other African institutions such as the East, Central and Southern African Community Health Community and the African Union; and exploring a regional platform for maternal and neonatal death review, surveillance and response.
