The UK will provide £4.5m to ...the Guinea Worm Eradication Programme to coordinate efforts to control and eradicate Guinea Worm Disease. The Carter Center, in conjunction with WHO, lead the GWEP. DFID funds will contribute towards work in all endemic countries such as surveillance, containment of cases and dissemination of information. By the end of the programe results will include: Guinea worm cases expected to have reduced to 8, endemic villages expected to have reduced to 15, surveillance systems covering approximately 6000 villages in the remaining endemic countries, and the Democratic Republic of Congo and Kenya expected to submit documentation demonstrating absence of Guinea Worm Disease.

This programme will provide hu...manitarian aid to vulnerable populations in Iraq by (1) Responding to the needs of extremely vulnerable people including women and girls and (2) Supporting improvements in the UN humanitarian system. The programme will deliver life-saving assistance through: Flexible responses to sudden-onset emergencies through the Humanitarian Pooled Fund; and Assistance to protracted IDP caseloads through cash grants and improved access to public welfare. The programme will also fund research aimed at enabling a shift from humanitarian aid in-kind to cash grants. Support will also strengthen the humanitarian response such as the development of Government contingency coordination centres, improving safety and access reporting for NGOs and strengthening the UN response. The programme will contribute towards DFID Strategic Development Plan objectives 1 (strengthening global peace, security and governance) and 2 (strengthening resilience and response to crisis).

To provide refugees and vulner...able Jordanians with increased access to protection and specialised health services (disability rehabilitation), and to enhance the health sector's capacity. This will be done through assessing the need of beneficiaries and referring them to internal or external services as needed, the provision of rehabilitation services to people with disabilities, and the capacity building of local and national rehabilitation service providers with the ultimate aim of improving nationwide rehabilitation standards and coordination.

This programme is expected to ...deliver the following results:
• 8,100 people have their rehabilitation needs assessed.
• 1,400 people are referred to external service providers (e.g. for shelter, protection, legal services etc.).
• 2,100 people receive comprehensive disability rehabilitation services.
• 1,100 care-givers trained to support their disabled family members.
• 1,000 community members are sensitised on factors that would otherwise contribute to exclusion of people with disabilities.
• 900 skilled workers are better prepared to incorporated disability considerations into the outputs of their job.
• 6 ‘Equal Access Monitor’ advocacy documents are published as part of a wider advocacy strategy aimed at changing negative perceptions of disabled people.
• A coordination platform is established to develop a framework for a quality comprehensive rehabilitation system of service provision.
