Through the USAID Advancing Un...iversal Health Coverage (AUHC) Activity, the Smiling Sun Network will transform into the Surjer Hashi Network, a centrally managed, sustainable, private social enterprise that provides millions of people with high-quality primary care. AUHC is introducing innovative business and operational models, creating research-based health service packages for the poor, and experimenting with new health service delivery channels. Developing a robust research agenda, AUHC also monitors the impact of new systems and processes on advancing universal health coverage. This new model of health service delivery will catalyze new players in Bangladesh's health industry and inspire other health service providers to replicate the innovations modeled by the Surjer Hashi Network.

USAID will continue its grant ...to the multi-donor, World Bank-administered trust fund that supports activities under the Government of Bangladesh (GOB) Health Sector Development Program (HSDP). The HSDP funds national operational plans that strengthen public health in the areas of newborn/child health, adolescent and maternal health, tuberculosis, and national nutrition services. The HSDP also strengthens Bangladeshi public health systems through funding national operational plans in planning monitoring and research, health information systems and E-Health, procurement, logistics and supplies management, and drug administration and management. This activity harmonizes USAID assistance with GOB health planning as well as the health programs of other donors, thereby increasing the effectiveness of assistance.

Marketing Innovations for Sust...ainable Health Development
more
|
The Marketing Innovations for ...Sustainable Health Development is a Global Development Alliance that will use commercial marketing techniques to promote public health products and services through private sector providers and private sector pharmacies. The alliance will introduce new products into the market, engage private sector health facilities to provide public health services and commodities for family planning, maternal and child health, tuberculosis, and nutrition, and adopt non-conventional approaches to expand markets to reach low income groups with affordably priced services. The activity will specifically reach underserved demographic groups such as women and girls, adolescents, and the urban and semi-urban population. The activity will increase the use of long acting and reversible contraceptive methods, adding an estimated five million couple years of protection.

Strengthening Public Sector Sy...stems for Maternal and Newborn Health Activity (SPSMNH)
more
|
The Strengthening Public Secto...r Systems for Maternal and Newborn Care (SPSMNC) activity is designed to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality by strengthening public sector health systems and facilities. Major emphasis is given to strengthening primary health care providers to deliver patient-centered maternal and newborn health (MNH) services, and improving access to equitable and quality care. Through technical assistance, the activity will strengthen local facility readiness to provide MNH care, improve patient satisfaction, and increase provider compliance with evidence-based service delivery guidelines for normal delivery, basic and comprehensive emergency obstetric care, and facility-based newborn care. The activity will support technical assistance and advocacy with Government of Bangladesh and local government representatives to ensure clean water supply for improving handwashing and sanitation practices at the union level health facilities.

|
Maternal and Child Survival Pr...ogram (MCSP - formerly RMNCH)
more
|
The United States Agency for I...nternational Developments (USAID) Bureau for Global Healths flagship Maternal and Child Survival Program (MCSP) focuses on 25 high-priority countries with the ultimate goal of preventing child and maternal deaths. The Program is introducing and supporting high-impact, sustainable reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health (RMNCH) interventions in partnership with ministries of health and other partners. MCSP places a greater emphasis on key cross-cutting issues such as innovation, e/mHealth, equity, quality, gender, public-private partnerships and involvement of civil society, community approaches, health systems strengthening, and behavior change interventions. While maintaining a focus on technical, high-impact interventions; the Program works toward sustainable scale-up to include the health systems that deliver these interventions. In addition to contributing to high-level technical and policy dialogue at the global level, the Program provides tailored technical assistance to help countries meet specific priorities and contextual needs of local RMNCH programs.

PROJECT AXXES
|
Project Axxes
|
From 2006-2011, IMA World Heal...th led Project AXxes, a large USAID-funded health systems strengthening and service delivery program targeting eight million people in post-conflict areas of eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The main objective was to improve the availability, quality, and capacity of overall health care, using the appui global or global assistance strategy of the Ministry of Health (MOH), in 57 rural health zones adversely affected by years of civil war, neglect, and relative isolation. Approximately two-thirds of the health zones were nonfunctional or had limited services at project startup. The projects assistance focused foremost on the MOH priority package of primary health care (PHC) interventions including reinforcement of vaccination services, provision of pharmaceuticals and supplies to hospitals and health centers, delivery of a full complement of maternal and child health services including family planning, and newborn and postpartum care.

Asili 2.0 - Scaling for Sustai...nability in the Kivus will provide access to basic sanitation services and enable beneficiaries to obtain access to safe drinking water. The activity uses a sustainable, social enterprise approach, delivering an integrated business model to improve both economic, health, and WASH outcomes including improved access to clean water, income generating activities (i.e agriculture), and quality health care services for populations living in poverty. The activities are on a fee-for-service basis which provides a stream of revenue that will help to fully offset the on-going cost of the provision of clean water, improved hygiene, and administering of quality healthcare services.
