TB CARE I is a USAID five-year... cooperative agreement (2010-2015) that builds and expands upon previous USAID TB prevention and treatment efforts over the last eleven years. TB CARE I is one of the main global mechanisms for implementing USAIDs strategy as well as contributing to TB/HIV activities under the U.S. Presidents Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation (KNCV) is the prime partner and the collaborating partners are American Thoracic Society (ATS), FHI 360, International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (The Union), Japan Anti-Tuberculosis Association (JATA), Management Sciences for Health (MSH) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

This award contributes to the ...goal of strengthening the overall sustainability, quality, and reach of HIV and AIDS interventions in the region. BLC builds the capacity of government and civil society entities in southern Africa and has country-based programs in several countries in southern Africa to implement policies and health services for those infected with, and affected by, HIV and AIDS. The three key program areas which BLC supports include care and support for children made vulnerable by HIV, HIV prevention, and community-based care. The project vision is that by 2015 project partnerswhich include CSOs, governmental and intergovernmental institutions, parastatals, and private sector companiesare stronger, more resilient,and able to support community, national and regional structures to competently respond to HIV and AIDS issues, resulting in improved overall health in the southern African region.

• Designated as the Executiv...e Agent for Department of Defense (DoD) HIV support for foreign militaries in 2001, DHAPP also is the DoD implementing agency for the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), established in 2003. In coordination with the Department of State, US Agency for International Development, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Peace Corps, the PEPFAR team works together to mitigate the HIV pandemic and stop the spread of the AIDS virus.
The DHAPP Management Office at NHRC provides day-to-day direction along with operational and functional oversight of the DoD effort. DHAPP coordinates activities with the Department of State Office of the Global AIDS Coordinator and implements the DoD programs in the PEPFAR initiative. DHAPP also prepares and delivers periodic reports and assessments to the Assistance Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs and/or designated Deputy Assistant of Secretary Defense (DASD).
In fiscal year 2013, DHAPP trained over 7,000 health care workers to provide HIV clinical services; reached over 740,000 military and family members with comprehensive prevention messages; 630,000 military and family members were counseled and tested for HIV; 55,000 pregnant women knew their HIV status based on testing and counseling services; and 200 new laboratories were equipped and supported for HIV testing and diagnostics.

It addresses both the number of healthcare workers needed and the quality and performance of those workers. The definition of healthcare worker is expanded to include HR managers, laboratory staff, pharmacists, social workers, information systems/monitoring and evaluation specialists and others essential to the effective functioning of the health system.

Background: RKV is reeds enke...le jaren actief in Namibië met programma's uit het DGD AP. Zo waren er in het AP 2008 -2010 twee programma's: Basisgezondheidszorg en Organisatie -ontwikkeling. In het AP 2011 -2013 was RKV samen met het NaRK actief in WASH, EH en OO. De nieuwe activiteiten zijn allemaal gebaseerd op de resultaten van deze acties. Ze vloeien allemaal verder uit AP 2011 -2013 en maakt van de DGD steun een coherent geheel. NOTA : het programma in Namibie werd stopgezet - de aanvraag voor budgetherschikking werd goedgekeurd in MEI 2015. Het programma ontwikkelt activiteiten in 8 regio's (Caprivi, Ohangwena, Kunene, Khomas, Kavango, Otjozondjupa, Oshikoto and Omusati), allen in het noorden gelegen en tevens de armste regio's van het land, waar al de programma's met RKV plaatsvinden. - General objective: De globale doelstelling van RKV is het versterken van de capaciteiten van de Nationale Vereniging (NV) zodat deze een leidende rol heeft op verschillende gebieden, o.a. WASH en EH, en als organisatie stevig is ingebed in de samenleving, met een belangrijke rol weggelegd voor vrijwilligers op het gebied van, EH, verkeersveiligheid (VV) en hygiënepromotie. - Specific objective: Het voorkomen en beperken van WASH gerelateerde ziekten en sterfte en het verbeteren van de capaciteiten van het NaRK om Eerste Hulp toe te passen bij de kwetsbaren - Results: 1. Water en sanitatie : Het programma streeft naar een verbetering van de gezondheidsstatus door een verbeterde toegang tot drinkbaar water en sanitatiefaciliteiten en verbeterde hygiënepraktijken. Het eerste resultaat concentreert zich op het aanleveren van de zogenaamde 'hardware' (toiletten en watervoor -zieningsinstallaties); het tweede resultaat op de 'software' (informatie en sensibilisatie); de combinatie van beiden moet leiden tot een betere gezondheid van de doelgroep. Het tweede resultaat is een verbeterde kennis en gedrag van de doelgroep inzake hygiëne en ziektepreventie. 2. Eeerste Hulp : Het programma streeft naar het consolideren van een goed functionerend EH departement, een verbetering van de kwaliteit en de kwantiteit van de EH opleidingen en een toegenomen financiële autonomie van het EH departement. Het eerste verwachte resultaat is de aanwezigheid van een goed functionerend en degelijk opgeleid departement. Tevens zullen de recent ontwikkelde AFAM handboeken in gebruik worden genomen en het didactisch materiaal worden aangevuld.
