ed to malaria in pregnancy (MiP). Designed for programme managers and stakeholders, the toolkit addresses critical communication gaps in MiP programming, particularly among service providers. It provides tools to help users integrate MiP into situation analyses, segment audiences, define behavioural objectives and draft strategic communication plans.
MiP poses a significant public health challenge, contributing to maternal and neonatal mortality and morbidity in sub-Saharan Africa. Although effective interventions exist, such as the use of insecticide-treated nets, intermittent preventive treatment in pregnancy (IPTp) and timely diagnosis and treatment, their implementation remains inconsistent. The I-Kit supports more effective SBCC planning and implementation, with the aim of increasing the uptake and impact of these interventions and ultimately reducing malaria-related deaths and illness among pregnant women and newborns.

Se seguirán revisando las recomendaciones sobre la malaria y, cuando proceda, se actualizarán en función de los últimos datos probatorios disponibles. Todas las recomendaciones actualizadas mostrarán siempre la fecha de la revisión más reciente en la plataforma MAGICapp. Con cada actualización, habrá también disponible en el sitio web de la OMS una nueva versión en PDF de las directrices unificadas que se podrá descargar.

Due to safety concerns, pregnant women are often excluded from antimalarial drug trials, which causes long delays in effective medicines becoming available for this vulnerable group. To address this issue, the Medicines for Malaria Venture (MMV) launched the Malaria in Mothers and Babies (MiMBa) initiative, which aims to accelerate the discovery, development, and delivery of safe antimalarial treatments for pregnant and breastfeeding women. The initiative aims to close critical gaps in research, drug development, and access, ensuring that these women and their babies are better protected against malaria. En su elaboración han participado expertos en malaria de las sociedades médicas, de los principales hospitales nacionales y estatales, quienes durante meses han realizado reuniones de trabajo, de campo, revisiones bibliográficas y actualizaciones terapéuticas, para finalmente, por consenso, aprobar la presente pauta. Este documento busca resumir de manera clara, la forma correcta de tratar a los pacientes con malaria o paludismo en todo el territorio nacional. De esta forma se busca que se estandaricen los pasos a seguir desde que se sospecha de un caso de malaria, el diagnóstico, el tratamiento, el seguimiento y alta de un paciente.

ion and clinical features of the two diseases, highlighting the diagnostic challenges and strategies for accurate detection. Emerging immunological and genetic evidence indicates that prior exposure to malaria may reduce the severity of outcomes of SARS-CoV-2 infection through mechanisms involving ACE2 downregulation, TLR signalling, T-cell activation and upregulation of coinhibitory receptors. Additionally, potential control measures are discussed, including vaccine development, the repurposing of antimalarial drugs, the exploration of natural products, innovations in bioinsecticides, and the strengthening of electronic disease surveillance. These insights provide valuable guidance for clinical management and public health policy, while emphasising the need for continued research into the complex interactions between SARS-CoV-2 and malaria.
