During 2021, some 1.7 million people crossed international borders seeking protection and 14.4 million new displacements within their countries were reported. Such inequalities create, maintain and exacerbate exposure to risk factors that endanger women’s mental health, and are most graphically illustrated in the significantly different rates of depression between men and women, poverty and its impact, and the phenomenal prevalence of violence against women.
