This Global Plan builds on the previous edition, which laid out priority actions for 2018-2022, informed by global commitments member states endorsed at the 2018 United Nations High-Level Meeting (UNHLM) on TB. The resource needs estimates from this Global Plan include resources needed for implement...ing TB care and prevention and R&D into new tools. This Global Plan has already informed the Global Fund Investment Case and the 2022 G20 deliberations on TB. It will serve as a key document for inspiring and aligning global advocacy efforts, such as for the upcoming UNHLM on TB in 2023.

This position paper on polio vaccines replaces the 2016 WHO position paper, and summarizes recent developments in the field.
AVADAR is a mobile sms-based software application designed to improve the quality and sensitivity of Acute Flaccid Paralysis (AFP) surveillance by health workers and key informants within hospital facilities and local communities.
The idea is simple: Health workers visit remote villages to check if... local inhabitants have any symptoms of a range of life-threatening infectious diseases, including polio and measles. Then, with the mobile app, they quickly and easily alert WHO.
The AFP video component was developed by World Health Organization (WHO) and eHA, and the software design component was handled by Novel-T. To date, eHA has translated the app into 17 languages.
Informant Selection & Capacity Building
The selection of informants (including health workers) was led by the WHO and each country’s Ministry of Health team. Once selected, screening and training was jointly conducted by WHO, the Ministries of Health, and eHealth Africa team.
In several countries, “special informants” with limited literacy participate in the project via a simplified version of the app that only requires a “yes” or “no” response to having seen a child with AFP symptoms

Polio is an infectious disease that is caused and transmitted by the poliovirus. Most infections do not lead to any symptoms, but—among the unvaccinated—...between 1 in 50 and 1 in 500 infections result in paralysis. For some it leads to death.
At the start of the 20th century, polio was endemic worldwide, with large epidemic outbreaks every year. But with the development of two vaccines in the 1950s, countries began eliminating polio one by one.

La XV Reunión de la Comisión Regional de Certificación de la Erradicación de la Polio en la Región de las Américas se llevó a cabo del 25 al 27 de octubre del 2022 en Atlanta, Estados Unidos. Durante la reunión, La Comisión Regional de Certificación (RCC, por su sigla en inglés) analizó ...y validó 6 informes de contención y 4 informes anuales de los países que no entregaron el Informe Anual 2021 en tiempo para su revisión durante la XIV reunión. La RCC también se reunió con el programa doméstico de polio de los Estados Unidos para discutir la situación del brote de cVDPV2. Todos los miembros de la RCC analizaron y aprobaron los resultados de validación y el informe final de la reunión

Significant progress has been made in the eradication of three priority diseases in the African Region, as a result of extensive collaboration between the Regional Office, WHO country offices and countries. For example, in August 2020, the region was certified free of wild poliovirus. In the area of... neglected tropical diseases, Guinea worm disease is on the verge of eradication, and 12 member states are within reach of being certified as having eradicated yaws by the end of this year.
