The aim of the project in Muku...ru, one of the largest slums in Nairobi with 700,000 inhabitants, is to make a contribution to the social and economic empowerment of children and young people, their parents and caregivers. Specifically, the Mukuru Slum Development Project (MSDP) supports street children, but also their parents, to start a regular life, to (re) start school and vocational training. Rehabilitation and reintegration programs, training, technical training, but also education in sport, music, dance and theater should open up new perspectives, which in the best case lead to a professional career. With the training of 'peer educators', MSDP promotes role models and an awareness of issues such as HIV / AIDS, drug abuse, violence and gender. A total of almost 2,000 children, adolescents and adults are involved in the various programs, but indirectly more than 8,000 people benefit from them.

Background: Au cours de la p...riode 2009 -2013, qui correspond à une phase de reconstruction et de développement dans le pays, HI a contribué à la mise en place de projets dans 6 thématiques différentes, en partenariat avec les acteurs nationaux publics et associatifs.1. Deux projets d'éducation inclusive cofinancés par l'Union européenne et exécutés dans 6 districts et au niveau national avec un volet renforcement des capacités des associations dont les principaux résultats sont: la révision de la politique et le développement du plan stratégique sur l'éducation inclusive, l'adoption d'un programme de formation continue en éducation inclusive pour les enseignants du primaire par le Kigali Institute of Education, le renforcement des capacités du collectif Tubakunde (regroupant 40 centres spécialisés) qui fait du plaidoyer pour les droits des enfants avec handicap mental, le renforcement des capacités de 6 centres spécialisés pour les enfants en situation de handicap qui sont des centres de ressources pour les écoles primaires et la communauté, les pratiques pédagogiques qui sont inclusives dans les écoles primaires, l'existence d'un partenariat parents -écoles avec des groupes de parents qui se réunissent dans les écoles, se soutiennent mutuellement et font du plaidoyer auprès des autorités locales pour les droits des enfants vulnérables dont ceux en situation de handicap.2. Deux projets de réadaptation fonctionnelle et de RBC cofinancés par l'UE et exécutés au niveau national et dans 5 districts en partenariat avec le MINISANTE, le conseil national des personnes handicapées, 2 associations de professionnels de la réadaptation et 2 ONGs locales dont les principaux résultats sont l'accès aux personnes handicapées aux services de réadaptation et l'inclusion scolaire et communautaire et un accroissement des connaissances des professionnels de la réadaptation en techniques nouvelles3. Un projet de lutte contre l'épilepsie, cofinancé par l'UE et exécuté dans 4 districts en partenariat avec deux organisations partenaires et le MINISANTE avec comme résultats le renforcement des compétences des professionnels de santé, l'inclusion scolaires des enfants épileptiques et l'intégration des antiépileptiques dans les commandes nationales.4. Un projet de développement local inclusif ayant démarré en janvier 2013 visant à permettre l'accès des personnes vulnérables dont les personnes handicapées aux services de base et à renforcer les associations de personnes vulnérables.5. Trois projets « VIH et handicap » cofinancés par le Gouvernement américain, l'Unicef et la fondation Accentus en partenariat avec plus de 10 associations nationales dont les OPH qui ont permis de changer les attitudes envers les personnes handicapées dans les actions VIH et permis aux personnes handicapées de participer grâce notamment à la formation des pairs éducateurs et d'accéder aux produits VIH.6. Background: In Cape Town, abo...ut 4 in 10 patients in need of HIV treatment are not receiving HIV treatment. Scaled -up, earlier HIV treatment may impact on HIV incidence but this impact is likely to be affected by age differences between sexual partners and concurrent relationships. At the academic level, there is a growing need to train epidemiologists and statisticians, and to set up interdisciplinary collaborations to address the scientific challenges that the HIV/AIDS epidemic poses. The project aims to contribute to prevention of HIV in South Africa through HIV treatment. Specifically, the project aims to formulate recommendations for policy changes related to early HIV treatment in South Africa based on results from an epidemiological model. The project will result in characterisation of age -mixing and concurrency patterns in the formation of sexual relationships; construction of an epidemiological model to simulate sexual partnership dynamics and the impact of early, wide -scale HIV treatment on HIV incidence; training of MSc and PhD students and the introduction of a post -graduate programme in applied statistics; creation of a discussion forum for participating scientists; and transfer of information to policy makers and other stake holders - General objective: -Academic overall objective: Statistical and epidemiological modelling is used to understand the impact of early HIV treatment on HIV incidence in South Africa -Developmental overall objective: Early HIV treatment is accepted as a contributor towards - Specific objective: -Specific academic objective: The expected impact of early HIV treatment on HIV incidence in South Africa is modelled -Specific developmental objective: Recommendations for policy changes related to early HIV treatment in South Africa are formulated -

Background: Le projet appuie l...e développement de la micro-finance au Rwanda avec des actions au niveau du secteur (au niveau national) et des actions ciblant la gestion et les produits de micro-finance d'une dizaine d'IMFs (institution de micro-finance) parmi la cinquantaine opérant au Rwanda (mais la dizaine d'IMFs partenaires représente plus de 70% de la micro-finance rwandaise). Les actions au niveau du secteur concernent la mise en place d'une société mutuelle de garantie pour le refinancement des IMFs, la collaboration à la mise en place d'une centrale de risque, d'un observatoire des bonnes pratiques de gestion, etc...Les actions au niveau des IMF englobent du renforcement de capacités pour une meilleure gestion, l'informatisation des opérations et la mise sur pied de nouveaux produits de micro-finances, adaptés à des cibles visées par le projet (revenus d'associations s'occupant de malades du VIH Sida ; risque envers les calamités naturelles ; des produits de micro-finance ciblant plus particulièrement les populations rurales visées par le FBS).Le développement de ce projet de micro-finance devra être organisé pour favoriser des synergies avec un projet bilatéral en appui à la micro-finance avec le département de micro-finance (FOREDEM) de la Banque Rwandaise de Développement (BRD). -- General purpose: Les revenus des groupes cibles sont augmentés -- Specific purpose: L'accès au crédit est facilités prioritairement pour les différents groupes cibles :-zones rurales-les femmes-les malades de longue durée -- Results: A compléter après l'évaluation de mi-parcours

This project supports the 2014... This contribution represents C...anada's long-term institutional support to the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b), a non-profit international health research, service, and training institution. icddr,b uses these funds, along with other donors' funding, to achieve its mandate. icddr,b's mandate is to provide free, high quality health care for the poor in Bangladesh, including maternal and child health services and treatment for diarrhoeal and other diseases. It also supports research that is designed to generate the data needed to develop policies and practices to address significant health challenges in Bangladesh and other countries. Canada's support to icddr,b contributes to ensuring that icddr,b is providing effective, evidence-based, gender-responsive health care and health education services for the poor. It also ensures that the icddr,b can continue to conduct important health research that translates into policies that can help to improve the health and reduce poverty levels of Bangladeshis. Canada's institutional support is also helping to strengthen the management systems and improve the sustainability of the Centre. / Cette contribution représente le soutien institutionnel à long terme du Canada au Centre international de recherche sur les maladies diarrhéiques du Bangladesh (CIRMD - Bangladesh), un institut international de recherche, de services et de formation dans le secteur de la santé à but non lucratif. Le CIRMD utilise ces fonds, ainsi que ceux octroyés par d'autres donateurs, pour mener à bien son mandat. This volunteer sending program... supports the assignment of 3,931 Canadian and developing-country volunteers with partner organizations in developing countries. The program aims to support partner organizations working on health and environment-related initiatives through projects in the following sectors: (1) primary health care; (2) family planning and reproductive health care; (3) food and nutrition; (4) environmental conservation, pollution prevention, and capacity building in environmental management; and (5) equality between women and men. The program also includes a public engagement component that furthers the promotion of development awareness in Canada. An amount of $80,622 has been added to the total amount for each of the Volunteer Cooperation Agency programs for CIDA-led program evaluations. / Ce programme d envoi de volontaires soutient la mission de 3 931 bénévoles Canadiens et ceux provenant des pays en développement, en collaboration avec les organisations partenaires dans les pays en développement. More specifically, the program focuses on improving access to health and education services, markets, and political participation; fostering equality between women and men; engaging organizations in political dialogue in specific sectoral issues; and raising awareness among Canadians of national, regional, and global issues with regards to private sector development, governance, health, education, and equality between women and men. The Uniterra program is jointly operated by the Centre for International Studies and Cooperation (CECI) and World University Services of Canada (WUSC). / Le programme de volontariat international Uniterra vise à contribuer par des approches sectorielles nationales et régionales à la réduction de la pauvreté et au développement durable dans 13 pays en développement avec l appui de 2 500 volontaires. This volunteer sending program... supports the assignment of 3,931 Canadian and developing-country volunteers with partner organizations in developing countries. The program aims to support partner organizations working on health and environment-related initiatives through projects in the following sectors: (1) primary health care; (2) family planning and reproductive health care; (3) food and nutrition; (4) environmental conservation, pollution prevention, and capacity building in environmental management; and (5) equality between women and men. The program also includes a public engagement component that furthers the promotion of development awareness in Canada. An amount of $80,622 has been added to the total amount for each of the Volunteer Cooperation Agency programs for CIDA-led program evaluations. / Ce programme d envoi de volontaires soutient la mission de 3 931 bénévoles Canadiens et ceux provenant des pays en développement, en collaboration avec les organisations partenaires dans les pays en développement. As part of the 2009-2015 Volun...teer Cooperation Program, Cuso International places 1400 sector-focused skilled volunteers to build the capacity of partner organizations in 26 countries. Volunteer placements are both long- and short-term in nature, and include multiple types of volunteering options: North-South, South-South, South-North, national, Diaspora and business partnerships. Volunteers focus on capacity building (through sharing of knowledge, methodologies, and/or tools relating to specific capacity areas) and enhancing the ability of partners to influence development policy. Partners include local civil society organizations, national and local governments and various networks and associations. Cuso International also delivers a public engagement program in Canada designed to deepen understanding amongst Canadians and create opportunities for informed action on international development issues. Cuso International works in the following sectors: Education, with a particular focus on the inclusion of women and girls in educational options; HIV and AIDS, with a particular focus on the vulnerability of woman and girls, and the rights of people to have access to services; Participation and Governance / Access to Justice, by aiming to empower poor and marginalized groups, especially women, to fulfill rights of access to basic services, and by ensuring access to justice for women and children; Youth Social and Economic Inclusion, by creating opportunities for training and employment for young women and men facing poverty, underemployment and social exclusion; Protecting Environments; Managing Natural Resources, by strengthening community-level governance mechanisms, including the participation of women in community decision-making, aimed at better local management of natural resources; Gender Equality, by incorporating GE as a crosscutting theme throughout all programming components, and through local GE capacity building activities with partners. Cuso International works in the following sectors: Education, with a particular focus on the inclusion of women and girls in educational options; HIV and AIDS, with a particular focus on the vulnerability of woman and girls, and the rights of people to have access to services; Participation and Governance / Access to Justice, by aiming to empower poor and marginalized groups, especially women, to fulfill rights of access to basic services, and by ensuring access to justice for women and children; Youth Social and Economic Inclusion, by creating opportunities for training and employment for young women and men facing poverty, underemployment and social exclusion; Protecting Environments; Managing Natural Resources, by strengthening community-level governance mechanisms, including the participation of women in community decision-making, aimed at better local management of natural resources; Gender Equality, by incorporating GE as a crosscutting theme throughout all programming components, and through local GE capacity building activities with partners. The project aims to reach 10,8...00 households and over 54,000 slum dwellers by building the capacity of local partners to undertake activities in housing support services, housing microfinance, HIV and AIDS prevention and urban agriculture. The project intends to benefit 7,800 poor families in Sub Saharan Africa to either secure home ownership or improve their existing homes. Additionally, the project will help 1,000 families affected by HIV and AIDS to access housing services and also help improve the food security situation of 2,000 urban households. The project will also increase interest among Canadian housing related networks to respond to urban poverty and human settlement challenges in Sub-Saharan Africa. / Le projet vise à atteindre 10 800 ménages et plus de 54 000 habitants des bidonvilles en renforçant la capacité des partenaires locaux à entreprendre des activités en appui au logement, à la micro finance du logement, à la prévention du VIH et du sida et à l'agriculture urbaine. Le projet vise à aider 7 800 familles pauvres en Afrique subsaharienne soit à acceder à la propriété ou à améliorer leurs maisons existantes. En outre, le projet aidera 1 000 familles touchées par le VIH et le sida à accéder aux services de logement et contribuera également à améliorer la situation de sécurité alimentaire de 2 000 ménages urbains. Le projet permettra également d'accroitre l'intérêt des réseaux canadiens de logements pour répondre aux défis de la pauvreté urbaine et des établissements humains en Afrique subsaharienne.

As part of the 2009-2015 Volun...teer Cooperation Program, Cuso International places 1400 sector-focused skilled volunteers to build the capacity of partner organizations in 26 countries. Volunteer placements are both long- and short-term in nature, and include multiple types of volunteering options: North-South, South-South, South-North, national, Diaspora and business partnerships. Volunteers focus on capacity building (through sharing of knowledge, methodologies, and/or tools relating to specific capacity areas) and enhancing the ability of partners to influence development policy. Partners include local civil society organizations, national and local governments and various networks and associations. Cuso International also delivers a public engagement program in Canada designed to deepen understanding amongst Canadians and create opportunities for informed action on international development issues. The project contributes to imp...roving maternal, newborn and child health, protecting children and preventing sexual and gender-based violence by supporting the production and nationwide broadcast of radio serial dramas. These dramas provide information, tools and resources to stimulate social change, raise the awareness and improve the overall health and well-being of the audience. The dramas use characters and settings that reflect people's daily lives and current impressions of health and social issues. Produced in the most commonly spoken languages in the Democratic Republic of Congo, these dramas use the country's most economical and far-reaching mass media mechanism. The project promotes positive behavioural changes related to themes such as: immunization for all children and pregnant women; improving child nutrition; the proper use of treated bed nets to prevent malaria; child spacing and delaying marriage and onset of childbearing to promote the health of mothers; birth registration; and positive behaviours for both women and men with regard to gender equality and HIV/AIDS prevention. / Le projet contribue à l'amélioration de la santé maternelle, néonatale et infantile, ainsi qu'à la protection de l'enfance et la prévention des violences sexuelles et basées sur le genre, par son appui à la production et à la diffusion de feuilletons radiophoniques à l'échelle nationale. Ces radioromans fournissent des informations, des outils et des ressources afin d'inciter des changements sociaux, de sensibiliser et d'améliorer la santé et le bien-être des auditeurs. Les radios-romans utilisent des personnages et des situations reflétant la vie quotidienne et l'opinion générale de la population sur les enjeux sociaux et sanitaires. Réalisés dans les langues les plus parlées en République démocratique du Congo, ces radioromans atteignent des millions d'auditeurs par le biais du média le plus économique et de plus grande portée du pays. Le projet favorise les changements de comportement positifs vis-à-vis: de la vaccination des enfants et des femmes enceintes; des meilleures pratiques de nutrition des enfants; de l'utilisation appropriée des moustiquaires imprégnées d'insecticide; de l'espacement des naissances; du recul de l'âge du mariage et de la maternité; de l'enregistrement des naissances; des comportements positifs des femmes et des hommes en matière d'égalité des sexes; et de la prévention du VIH/sida.
