Tsela Kgopo (Winding Road) Orp...hans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) and Gender Project - HIV/AIDS
more
|
in 2011 PCI received funding f...rom USAID for the Tsela Kgopo (Winding Road) Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) and Gender Project. Tsela Kgopo is designed to contribute to the national agenda of addressing factors that increase the vulnerability of OVC, adolescent girls and women, such as HIV/AIDS, chronic poverty, neglect, exploitation and abuse. The program collaborates with government, universities and other educational institutions, the private sector and Civil Society Organizations to address the needs of OVC and their families with a focus on addressing gender issues. Through community mobilization, the program raises awareness about neglect, exploitation and abuse of children, adolescents and women, and supports communities to take action to address these challenges.

Supporting Transformation by R...educing Insecurity and Vulnerability with Economic Strengthening (STRIVE) - Social Services
more
|
Supporting Transformation by R...educing Insecurity and Vulnerability with Economic Strengthening (STRIVE) focuses on strengthening economic security for vulnerable children. Conflict, extreme economic stress, natural disasters and the spread of diseases such as HIV/AIDS contribute to the increasing number of orphans and other vulnerable children worldwide. These children have been the focus of innumerable programs that address their health, educational, psychosocial and security needs. While many programs provide excellent noneconomic support to such children, rarely do they adequately address the issue of economic insecurity. STRIVE identifies and demonstrates effective and sustainable ways to improve the economic circumstances of vulnerable children. Managed by FHI 360, STRIVE implements field projects that use an array of economic-strengthening approaches, ranging from savings-led finance to workforce development to value chain interventions. Coupled with a robust monitoring and evaluation framework and learning strategy, STRIVE tracks and documents the impact of interventions on childrens economic (financial) and noneconomic (health, education and nutrition) well-being.

HIV/AIDS - Improve the lives o...f orphans and other vulnerable children and families affected by HIV/AIDS. Strengthen communities to meet the needs of orphans and other vulnerable children affected by HIV/AIDS, supporting community-based responses, helping children and adolescents to meet their own needs, creating a supportive social and policy environment. Activities could include training caregivers, increasing access to education, economic support, targeted food and nutrition support, and legal aid. Institutional responses would also be included. ARV treatment of children is excluded from this category and should be coded under Sub-Element 1.1.10 (HIV/AIDS Treatment and Anti-Retroviral Drugs) and Sub-Element 1.1.11 (HIV/AIDS Treatment and Anti-Retroviral Services). Palliative care, including basic health care and support and TB/HIV prevention, management and treatment, as well as their related laboratory services and pharmaceuticals, when delivered within programs for orphans and other vulnerable children affected by HIV/AIDS, should be coded under this aspect. Other health care associated with the continuum of HIV/AIDS illness, including HIV/TB services, when delivered outside a program for orphans and other vulnerable children affected by HIV/AIDS, should be coded under Sub-Element 1.1.6 (Basic Health Care and Support) or Sub-Element 1.1.7 (TB/HIV).

Turengere Abana - HIV/AIDS
|
USAID through Turengere Abana ...supports an integrated approach to improve the well-being of orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) and their families, especially those affected by HIV/AIDS, in seven districts. The project supports vulnerable households access to quality health and social services; education support for OVC, including Technical and Vocational Education Training; Early Childhood Development (ECD); household economic strengthening; HIV awareness and prevention; child protection; community-based nutrition programs; and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH). With FY 2015 funds, this activity will serve approximately 17,217 OVC active beneficiaries (9,469 children and 7,748 adults). Maternal and Child Health (MCH) and nutrition funding will complement PEPFAR funding, allowing this activity to implement a community-based nutrition package in all sectors of Nyanza District, integrate ECD and WASH messaging in all program activities, and formalize inclusion of home-based visits within program activities.

Service Delivery And Support F...or Families Caring For Orphans And Vulnerable Children (Ovc) - Roll-Out Of Isibindi Model - HIV/AIDS

|
NACCW will support the Departm...ent of Social Development (DSD) to create safe and caring families that meet children needs through the delivery of high quality community based services provided by trained child and youth care workers (CYCW). NACCW will provide technical support to DSD to roll out and scale up the Isibindi model in a standardized way to meet the needs of OVC. In collaboration with the DSD in all nine provinces, NACCW will train and mentor new CYC workers in providing prevention, early intervention and child protection services to OVC. The Isibindi model is a comprehensive OVC response to provide essential community based services to OVC. Aligned to Government policy the model responds holistically to childrens needs while at the same time developing and strengthening the social service workforce serving children. The model trains and employs community based CYCW to supervise child and youth headed households while also providing tailored developmental and therapeutic support to children living in other vulnerable households.

The purpose of this contract i...s to enhance the South African Government (GoSA), specifically the Department of Social Development (DSD), in supporting Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) by strengthening the DSDs response in addressing the social and structural barriers that increase the vulnerability of OVC to Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) and Tuberculosis (TB) and address specific constraints hampering the health and social welfare system to achieve better outcomes for OVC and other vulnerable children (e.g. those affected by child abuse, neglect and exploitation). Specifically, the GCDS will support to the DSD to achieve the following three objectives: (1) Improve timely availability of reliable data on program performance monitoring and evaluation (M&E) and information on the social effects of HIV and AIDS and other vulnerabilities faced by children (such as child abuse, neglect and exploitation); (2) Strengthen coordination, management and oversight of community care service structures that protect and care for the most vulnerable children and the families that care for them; and (3 )Strengthen inter-sector integration and coordination between DSD and other GoSA Departments such as Health and Education and build a supportive multi-sector environment led by DSD for vulnerable children through system strengthening at the national and provincial level.

|
