Sustainable Outcomes for Child...ren and Youth in Central and Western Uganda is implementing a household-based response to empower vulnerable children, youths and their caregivers to reduce their vulnerability and improve their wellbeing. The project is implemented in the Southwestern districts of Bushenyi, Rukungiri, Kiruhura, Kabale and Isingiro. The project targets to reach a total of 150453 direct beneficiaries (including vulnerable children and their caregivers) from 24654 households in a period of 3 years. The program activities involving at least 2268 Community volunteers (i.e. Para-social workers, VHTs and Para-legal workers) is implemented at sub-county level covering a total of 83 sub-counties. The project goal is to create an integrated and coordinated service delivery system that will ensure access to essential health, nutrition and social services by OVC, youth and their caregivers resulting in better outcomes and reduced HIV/AIDS vulnerability in the target districts.

Children Tariro (CT) aims to m...itigate the impact of HIV/AIDS on Zimbabwe's children by enhancing care and support services for orphans and vulnerable children under the National Action Plan for OVC (NAPII). The objectives of the activity are 1) Strengthen the capacity of communities and local service providers to support vulnerable families and children; 2) Strengthen the capacity of vulnerable households to care for children; 3) Strengthen the capacity of the public sector social service system to support vulnerable families and children; and 4) Strengthen the capacity of communities to support vulnerable children and their families to access prevention, care and treatment of HIV services. FACT Children Tariro OVC program employs a systemic approach which builds on Department of Child Welfare and Protection Services (DPWPS) strategy and FACTs integrated Community Care of OVC model of offering wrap around services to children and their families.

The Comprehensive Assistance, ...Support and Empowerment of Orphans and Vulnerable Children (CASE-OVC) programme is a five year, USAID-funded grant implemented by Christian Aid in Kenya. The programme aims to reach 170,000 orphans and vulnerable children, from 52,000 households, who are affected or infected by HIV and AIDS. The goal is to improve the well-being of the children by ensuring they can request and gain access to social services (health, nutrition, education, legal protection, psychosocial support and social protection). We are also working to improve their livelihood options to better care for themselves.

The main goal of the USAID/Moz...ambiques Strengthening Family and Community Support to Orphans and Vulnerable Children (SFCS-OVC) activity is to reduce the socio-economic impact of HIV/AIDS on OVC and their caregivers. The overall objective is to enhance the capacity of families and communities to support, protect, and care for OVC and caregivers. The activity will take a family-centered approach and offer a set of services that will strengthen families and communities to help OVC transition from childhood and adolescence to young adulthood, ensuring that they are AIDS-free, healthy, educated, and prepared to contribute to Mozambiques development. The intermediate results of the activity are: 1) Strengthened coordination and harmonization of care, protection and support services for OVC households at the district and community level; 2) Increased access to education and improved learning outcomes for OVC; 3) Increased access to healthcare and nutritional support for OVC and caregivers; 4) Improved coping mechanisms for OVC and caregivers; and 5) Improved socio-economic status of OVC households.

The project is focused on community-based, result-oriented and family focused interventions to increase capacity of local organizations and communities to positively respond to the needs of OVCs. LOPIN-3 is implemented by Health Initiatives for Safety and Stability in Africa (HIFASS) as the lead partner among other local consortium members which include People-To-People Health Foundation Nigeria (PPHFN), Calabar Arch-Diocesan Action Committee on AIDS (CAACA) and Catholic Diocese of Abakaliki, Succour and Development Services Initiatives (SUCCDEV). The Project has two strategic objectives: (i) To improve systems and structures at state, LGAs and communities to ensure provision of quality care, protection and support services to OVC and their households. (ii) To support improved organizational and technical capacities of local NGOs and CBOs to provide OVC care and support services in the two states.

Widows and Orphans Empowerment... Organization (WEWE) was authorized by United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Nigeria to implement the Local Partners Initiative for Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) [LOPIN] in Region 2 which included Anambra and Imo State, the agreement was scaled up to two more states Akwa-Ibom and Rivers States. LOPIN 2 Project aimed at mitigating the impact of HIV/AIDS and other forms of vulnerability on children and their households. It is designed to model inclusiveness in programming for Orphans and Vulnerable Children in Nigeria in accordance with the National Priority Agenda. The project goal is to improve the quality of life of at least 340,000 VC from 68,000 households in Awka Ibom, Anambra, Imo, and Rivers State within 5 years. WEWE - LOPIN 2 proposes Nine (9) strategic approaches which are: (i) OVC Service Delivery, (ii) Quality Improvement Science, (iii) System Strengthening, (iv) Public - Public Partnerships (PPP), (v) HIV Prevention (vi) Gender Consideration, (vii) Operational Research, (ix) Linkages to Treatment, Care and Support.

A critical component of the project is at the community level, where CBOs and CPCs have key roles in identifying and enrolling OVCs and vulnerable households and linking OVCs to services in health, education, nutrition and psychosocial support services. CBOs will be provided grants to conduct these critical interventions. Another innovation of the project is the secondment of ARFH LOPIN staff (State Programme Coordinators and State M&E Officers) to the State Ministry of Women Affairs to provide coaching, mentorship and hand holding in service provision as well as in the collection, validation of data. The project will also focus on strengthening stakeholders capacity to provide services as well as Public Private Partnership involvement.

The NACOSA Orphans and Vulnera...ble Children Community Systems Strengthening Programme, funded by USAID and PEPFAR, provides direct support to over 30,000 children, facilitation of community dialogues and circles of care and support to create awareness, action and change for children, their caregivers, the community and organisations. The programme also offers sexual and reproductive health information to adolescents through the Vutshilo intervention; a caregiver and adolescent communication programme called Lets Talk; and HIV testing services (HTS) and adherence support.

NACCW will support the Departm...ent of Social Development (DSD) to create safe and caring families that meet children needs through the delivery of high quality community based services provided by trained child and youth care workers (CYCW). NACCW will provide technical support to DSD to roll out and scale up the Isibindi model in a standardized way to meet the needs of OVC. In collaboration with the DSD in all nine provinces, NACCW will train and mentor new CYC workers in providing prevention, early intervention and child protection services to OVC. The Isibindi model is a comprehensive OVC response to provide essential community based services to OVC. Aligned to Government policy the model responds holistically to childrens needs while at the same time developing and strengthening the social service workforce serving children. The model trains and employs community based CYCW to supervise child and youth headed households while also providing tailored developmental and therapeutic support to children living in other vulnerable households.

The purpose of this contract i...s to enhance the South African Government (GoSA), specifically the Department of Social Development (DSD), in supporting Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) by strengthening the DSDs response in addressing the social and structural barriers that increase the vulnerability of OVC to Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) and Tuberculosis (TB) and address specific constraints hampering the health and social welfare system to achieve better outcomes for OVC and other vulnerable children (e.g. those affected by child abuse, neglect and exploitation). Specifically, the GCDS will support to the DSD to achieve the following three objectives: (1) Improve timely availability of reliable data on program performance monitoring and evaluation (M&E) and information on the social effects of HIV and AIDS and other vulnerabilities faced by children (such as child abuse, neglect and exploitation); (2) Strengthen coordination, management and oversight of community care service structures that protect and care for the most vulnerable children and the families that care for them; and (3 )Strengthen inter-sector integration and coordination between DSD and other GoSA Departments such as Health and Education and build a supportive multi-sector environment led by DSD for vulnerable children through system strengthening at the national and provincial level.
