|
The Corridors of Hope (COH III...) project, implemented through the ROADS II/Nairobi program, aims to reduce the spread of HIV in border and transportation corridor communities by targeting traditional high-risk groups; populations at higher risk of HIV exposure whose members may have unprotected sexual relations with individuals who are otherwise at low risk of HIV exposure; and the general population residing in these communities. Through its innovative approaches, COH III provides comprehensive HIV/AIDS prevention services and improves linkages and referral networks.

Zambia-led Prevention Initiati...ve (ZPI) - HIV/AIDS
more
|
The Zambia-led Prevention Init...iative (ZPI) works to reduce HIV transmission in Zambia through comprehensive, effective, community-based prevention efforts. ZPI helps communities design efficient, sustainable and locally owned responses to HIV and AIDS; pilots and evaluates interventions; facilitates access to and increased uptake of HIV prevention services; and strengthens the capacity of the Government of Zambia to respond to the epidemic. ZPI also works with the private sector to sustain interventions as part of a broader response to the HIV epidemic in Zambia.

• Designated as the Executiv...e Agent for Department of Defense (DoD) HIV support for foreign militaries in 2001, DHAPP also is the DoD implementing agency for the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), established in 2003. In coordination with the Department of State, US Agency for International Development, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Peace Corps, the PEPFAR team works together to mitigate the HIV pandemic and stop the spread of the AIDS virus.
The DHAPP Management Office at NHRC provides day-to-day direction along with operational and functional oversight of the DoD effort. DHAPP coordinates activities with the Department of State Office of the Global AIDS Coordinator and implements the DoD programs in the PEPFAR initiative. DHAPP also prepares and delivers periodic reports and assessments to the Assistance Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs and/or designated Deputy Assistant of Secretary Defense (DASD).
In fiscal year 2013, DHAPP trained over 7,000 health care workers to provide HIV clinical services; reached over 740,000 military and family members with comprehensive prevention messages; 630,000 military and family members were counseled and tested for HIV; 55,000 pregnant women knew their HIV status based on testing and counseling services; and 200 new laboratories were equipped and supported for HIV testing and diagnostics.

ELIMINATING PEDIATRIC AIDS IN ...SWAZILAND (EPAS) PROGRAM - HIV/AIDS

Eliminating Pediatric AIDS in ...Swaziland (EPAS) Program - HIV/AIDS
more
|
The goal of this five-year USA...ID/PEPFAR-funded project is to assist the Government of the Kingdom of Swaziland in its efforts to eliminate pediatric HIV. This project will expand the availability of comprehensive services for the prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) of HIV, reduce missed opportunities for delivery of services, and better address cultural norms that keep some women from obtaining these services. The EPAS program will make the most effective PMTCT services available to mothers in 100 percent of public facilities and selected high-volume private facilities. In addition, missed opportunities to provide services will be reduced through increased primary prevention, family planning, HIV re-testing during pregnancy, and mobilization of pregnant women for early antenatal care and delivery in health facilities.

The TransACTION project target...s populations who face a high risk of HIV infection, including commercial sex workers, at-risk youth, mobile and migrant workers, truck drivers and communities along identified transportation routes in Ethiopia. The project aims to provide targeted prevention of new HIV infections; to strengthen linkages to community-based care and support services, HIV counseling and testing, and treatment of sexually transmitted infections for at-risk populations; to increase demand for interpersonal counseling, health services and social support activities; and to improve the capacity of local nongovernmental organizations and private facilities to manage targeted prevention programs.

Community Prevention of Mother... to Child Transmission (CPMTCT) - HIV/AIDS
more
|
Improve the uptake and quality... of HIV and maternal child health (MCH) services for pregnant women in Ethiopia through community-based approaches. Support community-based prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) services through close collaboration with local and regional health offices and community organizations. Make maternal and child health and PMTCT services more widely available by improving the capacity of community- and facility-based health workers to provide quality care. Improve the coordination and referral network between and among service providers in communities and at health posts, health centers, and hospitals. Reach out to communities to encourage people to use maternal, pediatric, and PMTCT services.
