Au Sénégal, la mortalité infanto-juvénile est surtout causée par le paludisme les maladies diarrhéiques et les infections respiratoires aigües (IRA). Des travaux ont montré que 80% des décès d’enfants de zéro à cinq ans (0 à 5 ans) surviennent dans les maisons ...sans aucun contact avec les services de santé. D’où la nécessité de mettre en place des interventions à base communautaire efficaces pour réduire cette mortalité. A ce propos, la problématique de la consolidation et de l’élargissement des interventions à base communautaire se pose avec beaucoup d’acuité.

Les Centres africains de contrôle et de prévention des maladies (Africa CDC) ont pris connaissance des communiqués de presse concernant les résultats préliminaires d'un vaste essai clinique randomisé mené au Royaume-Uni, qui incluait la dexaméthasone, un corticostéroïde, parmi les médicam...ents utilisés pour le traitement des patients atteints de COVID-19. Les chercheurs ont rapporté que l'administration de dexaméthasone par voie orale ou injectable a permis de réduire d'environ un tiers la mortalité chez les patients COVID-19i qui nécessitaient une ventilation mécanique et d'environ un cinquième chez les patients nécessitant de l'oxygène. Depuis la publication de ces rapports médiatiques, les autorités sanitaires du Royaume-Uni et d'Afrique du Sud ont adopté la dexaméthasone pour le traitement des patients atteints de formes graves de COVID-19

Out of 400 questionnaires distributed to the participants, 389 were returned with data acceptable for analysis. Ages of the participants ranged from 18 to 75 years (Mean=43 + 11.6). Out of the 272 (69.9%) participants who conceded that th...ey had used medicinal herbs at least once, 30 (7.7%) participants used medicinal herbs frequently while 242 (62.2 %) rarely used the herbs. At least 20 plant species belonging to 16 families were reportedly used by the participants. Asteraceae was the most common plant family reportedly used by the participants. Allium sativum and Dicoma anomala, reportedly used by 21.0% and 14.3% respectively, were the most commonly used medicinal herbs in this population. In addition, boosting the immune system and treating gastrointestinal ailments, apparently cited by 32% and 28% participants respectively, were the most commonly reported reasons for using medicinal herbs.

On Sunday 16th December 2018, some villages in the Province of Mai-Nambiar, Democratic Republic of Congo, neighboring the district of Makotimpoko in the Republic of Congo (CongoBrazzaville) were affected by inter-ethnic conflict between the Banunu and the Batende. The fighting has resulted in 400 fa...talities and the destruction of property. A large number of the population of the conflict affected areas were forced to cross the river Congo and find refuge in several localities in the Cuvette (Konda and Youmba) and Plateaux (Makotimpoko, Bouemba, Patrick) areas in Congo-Brazzaville.
