USAID Social Enterprise Suppor...t Activity (USESA)
more
|
Social Enterprise Support (USE...SA) will improve the health status of Tanzanians by increased access to needed commodities through a total market approach (TMA) strategy. Focusing on HIV and family planning, this activity will increase uptake of preventive health services and products in support of Government of Tanzania and U.S. Government health priorities. Major activities include strengthening and expanding the sale of oral contraceptive pills (Flexi P) and male condoms (Dume) to targeted populations with a willingness to pay. It will also increase demand among target groups for these commodities. USESA will also work to transition its health products marketing from a grant dependency activity to a self-sustaining enterprise. Additionally, the activity will participate in Government of Tanzania forecasting and quantification exercises for health products and promote the implementation of a TMA in the country.

|
The goal of the Comprehensive ...Platform for Integrated Communications Initiative (CPICI) Cooperative Agreement is to support the Recipient's interventions and collaboration with the Government of Tanzania (GOT) to improve the health status especially of women and youth. The purpose is to support the Recipient's program to foster positive health practices in households and communities through changes in social and cultural norms that will enable and maintain these practices. Specifically, USAID intends to support interventions consistent with a strategic approach of using social behavior change communication interventions to improve the health of Tanzanians, demonstrating a clear link between program interventions and health status outcomes. USAID seeks to support a program where messages are tailored to geographic, epidemiological and audience segments at the regional level. Because regional radio programs have proven successful in the past, USAID seeks to support a program that incorporates this type of radio as a core media channel. Beyond traditional media, USAID seeks to support a program that is expected to use innovative techniques and mobile technologies to support program quality, reach, and effectiveness.

Ending AIDS in West Africa - H...IV/AIDS Prevention, Care and Treatment activities in West Africa
more
|
The Ending AIDS in West Africa... project helps to meet the 90-90-90 targets to end the AIDS epidemic, outlined by the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), through a focus on tailored HIV testing, treatment and care services for key populations in the region, particularly sex workers and men who have sex with men. FHI 360 and core project partners, Johns Hopkins University and Enda Sant, design programming that is informed by existing, high-impact practices based on past successes and identified gaps and by new evidence and best practices from the global key population community of practice. Ending AIDS in West Africa is a five-year technical assistance project funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development. The project is establishing eight key population centers of excellence in Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cte dIvoire, Guinea and Togo to provide appropriate programming, amplify efforts, serve as training hubs and sustain services beyond the life of the project. Leveraging existing multisectoral partnerships, the centers deliver services through a differentiated model of care approach that tailors activities to people and groups. It connects people to share their experiences, access information and classes, and rapidly exchange best practices and innovations.

The Sixth Global Symposium on ...Health Systems Research will be held in Dubai in November 2020. This is the only global conference that systematically brings together the international health systems and policy research (HSPR) community, with over 2,000 practitioners, policymakers, researchers, health advocates, journalists, and students from around the world. This grant continues IDRC's strategic decision of supporting the biennial Global Symposium on Health Systems Research (including meetings held in Montreaux in 2010, Beijing in 2012, Cape Town in 2014, Vancouver in 2016, and Liverpool in 2018). HSPR is fundamental to improving maternal, newborn, adolescent, and child health in low and middle-income countries (LMIC).The symposium offers an unparalleled opportunity to showcase results from several IDRC-supported initiatives, in particular those in Africa and the Middle East; interact with key health systems and policy stakeholders; understand new and emerging priorities in global health; and engage IDRC grantees and other LMIC voices in global debates.Working in collaboration with the Health Systems Global Association, IDRC will support the participation of at least 30 delegates from LMICs to the symposium. It will also facilitate communication, discussions, and exchanges via the translation of key documents and simultaneous interpretation in selected sessions. In addition, a survey of the capacity development needs of the HSPR community from LMICs will inform capacity building approaches to be explored at meetings during the symposium. The project will also improve access to new knowledge through the publication of a journal supplement focused on the theme/sub-themes discussed at the Dubai symposium, with at least 60-70% of the papers written by LMIC authors. As in previous years, it is expected that additional funding for the symposium will be provided by numerous other organizations and foundations in addition to IDRC.

Strengthening Tuberculosis and... HIV/AIDS response in the Southwestern region of Uganda (STAR-SW)
more
|
The STAR-SW project works to i...ncrease utilization of, access to, and coverage of quality comprehensive HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis (TB) services in 184 health facilities in the 13 districts in South Western Uganda. EGPAF aims to integrate cost-effective, family-based HIV/AIDS care and treatment services and prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV (PMTCT) programs into health care facilities through a multidisciplinary program of training, infrastructure development, and technical support. To enhance the sustainability of services, EGPAF promotes local district ownership of all activities; all work planning and roll-out of new services are led by the District Ministry of Health, and mentoring and supervising includes the District Health Team as the provider of support.

Literacy Achievement and Reten...tion Activity (LARA)
more
|
LARA aims to increase the read...ing skills of 1.3 million primary students and improve retention rates (decrease 'drop-outs') in primary schools in 28 districts across Uganda. LARA will achieve these aims by improving the capacity of the Ministry of Education and Sports to effectively sustain the rollout of the national early-grade reading model, which is being implemented in 85 of 112 districts, with an emphasis on teacher training and supervisory support. Reading primers and instructional materials for primary one through primary four will be printed and distributed to all program schools. To improve retention, LARA will include a safe-schools focus with particular attention to decreasing school-related gender based violence (SRGBR).
