Today, during World Water Week, Oxfam publishes the first of its series of reports, “Water Dilemmas”, about the growing water crisis, in large part driven by global heating from greenhouse gas emissions. The report describes how climate change will impact water security in different regions, leading to more hunger, disease and displacement.
Carlos Calderon, Humanitarian Advocacy and Partnerships Lead for Oxfam Aotearoa said, “This new Oxfam research is focused on the global Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WaSH) situation, but it paints a picture that illustrates the complexity of elements that, combined, will continue to increasingly affect women, girls, boys and men in the decades to come. Changing weather, poverty, inequality, gender-based violence, political instability and conflicts are impacting the availability and quality of adequate water systems. How to Use This briefing paper: This briefing paper is a quick reference for Plan International Child Protection in Emergencies (CPiE) staff on how to engage with other sectors operating in the emergency to ensure that child protection principles and considerations inform all aspects of humanitarian programming in other sectors. While there is child protection mainstreaming guidance for how to work with specific sectors (e.g. WASH, nutrition, distribution) this “All Sectors” briefing note can give CPiE staff the big picture of shared child protection mainstreaming messages that should be conveyed to all sectors. This briefing is aligned with the Minimum Standards for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action and the Sphere Standards, as well as Plan International staff feedback on what actions are the most vital for child protection mainstreaming in other sectors.

vides the latest available data on adolescent health and well-being. It also outlines an updated list of core indicators that data should be collected on. Globally, road injury was the top cause of death for adolescent males in 2019. Among female adolescents, the leading causes of death were diarrhoeal diseases among the younger group (10-14 years) and tuberculosis (TB) in the older group (15-19 years).
Over the last 20 years, mortality rates have declined among adolescents globally, with the largest decline in older (15–19 years) adolescent girls. For non-fatal diseases, the burden has not improved over the past two decades, with the main causes of ill health in this category being: mental health conditions (depressive and anxiety disorders, childhood behavioural disorders), iron deficiency anaemia, skin diseases and migraine.
Adolescent well-being depends on a range of factors, including healthy food, education, life skills and employability, connectedness, feeling valued by society, safe and supportive environments, resilience, and the freedom to make choices. To take an appropriately holistic approach, the guidance outlines how to take crosscutting action to support adolescent health and well-being, with mutually reinforcing interventions across sectors, such as health, education, social protection, and telecommunications. Targeted efforts are also required to engage adolescents, as they trust health systems less than adults do and are especially vulnerable to modern-day trends, like online bullying and gaming.

In response to this situation the Compact for Young People in Humanitarian Action reached out to the Youth2030 Disability Task Team with the aim of supporting humanitarian teams in the field. The current version of this checklist has been developed for a broader context not only for the Türkiye-Syria case, but also for other humanitarian crises. This checklist aims to provide guidance on how to ensure meaningful participation of young persons with disabilities in local humanitarian response. The expected users are humanitarian actors, especially those working in the field.

Como repuesta a esta situación, el Pacto para la Juventud en la Acción Humanitaria contactó al Grupo de Trabajo sobre Personas Jóvenes con Discapacidad de Juventud 2030, con el objetivo de apoyar a los equipos humanitarios que brindan asistencia en terreno. Concretamente, esta Guía Corta busca apoyar a los equipos en el terreno para asegurar la participación significativa de personas jóvenes con discapacidad en la respuesta humanitaria local. La versión actual de esta Guía Corta se ha creado para un contexto más amplio: será útil no solo en el caso de Turquía y Siria, sino también en otras crisis humanitarias.
Las personas jóvenes con discapacidad son aquellas entre los 15 y los 24 años de edad con impedimentos físicos, mentales, intelectuales o sensoriales a largo plazo que, al interactuar con diversas barreras sociales, pueden dificultar su participación completa y efectiva en la sociedad en igualdad de condiciones con los demás1 . Sin embargo, según el contexto, se considera personas jóvenes a aquellas entre los 15 y los 29 años. Por ejemplo, en el movimiento por los derechos de las personas con discapacidad, algunas organizaciones proponen este rango de edad más amplio2 debido a las barreras estructurales que afectan al desarrollo de las personas con discapacidad y, por ende, su posterior transición hacia la edad adulta.
