Esta tercera versión resumida de la Guía para el cuidado de pacientes adultos críticos con COVID-19 en las Américas se elaboró con el objetivo de facilitar la consulta de las recomendaciones para el manejo de pacientes adultos críticos con COVID-19 atendidos en las unidades de cuidados intensi...vos. Ofrece recomendaciones basadas en evidencia para la identificación de marcadores y factores de riesgo de mortalidad de los pacientes críticos, el control de la infección, la recogida de muestras, la asistencia a los pacientes (ventilatoria y hemodinámica), el tratamiento farmacológico, la rehabilitación temprana, el uso de imágenes diagnósticas, la prevención de complicaciones y los criterios de egreso. Las recomendaciones están dirigidas a todo el personal de salud que atiende a pacientes en los servicios de urgencias y de emergencias y las unidades de cuidados intensivos. Asimismo, tienen por objetivo brindar apoyo a los responsables de la toma de decisiones y miembros de entidades gubernamentales relacionados con el manejo de pacientes con COVID-19 en las unidades de cuidados intensivos de la Región de las Américas

The document summarizes the background information, evidence, and rationale for making KMC available to every preterm or LBW newborn and seeks to galvanize the international maternal, newborn, and child health community and families to come together to support the implementation of KMC for all preterm or LBW infants to improve their and their mothers and families health and well-being.
This position paper is intended to be used by policy-makers (i.e. those responsible for national policy, guideline development and budget allocation), development partners, programme managers, health workforce leadership, practising clinicians, civil society leadership (e.g. parent and professional organizations) and researchers/research organizations involved in KMC implementation research.

SARS-CoV-2 infections among children and adolescents cause less severe illness and fewer deaths compared to adults. While a less severe course of infection is a positive outcome, there are concerns that mild symptoms may have led to less testing, resulting in fewer identified cases of COVID-19 in ch...ildren. If children with mild or no symptoms transmit the disease, they may act as drivers of transmission within their communities. Understanding symptoms, infectivity and patterns of SARS-CoV-2 transmission in children and adolescents is essential for developing, adapting and improving control measures for COVID-19 across all ages. This is a summary of the current knowledge around SARS-CoV-2 infection acquisition and transmission and COVID-19 disease symptoms in children and adolescents. It aims to inform decisions, based on local contexts, on how to best keep schools, kindergarten and day-care facilities open and what advice to apply to intergenerational mixing.
