Kangaroo mother care (KMC) is a critical strategy to care for preterm and low birth weight infants in resource-limited settings. Despite evidence of its effectiveness and low cost, coverage has remained low, largely due to sociocultural barriers. We aimed to better understand social norms and commun...ity perceptions of preterm infants and KMC (facility-initiated and community-continued) in Malawi, a country with a high preterm birth rate, to inform a pilot social and behavior change program.

Community led-monitoring is based on the principle that «Nothing that is done for us should
be done without us”. The combination of this principle with evidence shows that community-led
monitoring is an important driver of improved service delivery and health outcomes that needs to
be re-empha...sized. Thus, the community must participate at all stages of the fight against malaria.
This guide will be useful to CSOs working in the field of malaria in the conduct of community-led
monitoring of activities efficiently and allow these CSOs to know their role and responsibilities in this
exercise at each key stage. This guide will also provide CSOs and communities affected by malaria
with templates of monitoring tools adapted to key malaria programs.

The campaign targeted high-risk groups, such as pregnant women and caregivers of children under five, and deliv...ered messages in multiple local languages, including English, Siswati and Tonga. The audio content encouraged the consistent use of insecticide-treated nets (ITNs), seeking timely care for fevers, and preventing malaria during pregnancy. Through addressing common myths and promoting positive social norms in an engaging way, the campaign aimed to increase community knowledge and encourage long-lasting behavioural change in malaria-endemic regions of Zambia.

Beyond Malaria is an educational short film that explores the wider social, economic and health system issues related to controlling malaria in sub-Saharan Africa. Moving beyond the clinical aspects of the disease, the film highlights structural inequalities, poverty, access barriers and community-l...evel realities that hinder the effective prevention and treatment of malaria. Through interviews, case studies and on-the-ground footage, the film emphasises the importance of integrating public health efforts with the local context, community engagement and sustainable development strategies.
