Ghana Laboratory Viral Load Testing, Expansion Plan 2017-2020

Ghana Health Service (GHS), (2017)

Due to the anticipated significant rise in VL testing occasioned by Ghana’s adaptation of 2016 ART guidelines, it has become necessary to develop this VL scale-up and operational plan to assure complete client access to laboratory monitoring towards the achievement of the third 90 of the HIV care cascade. The plan will enhance VL testing, monitoring whilst improving the clinical and laboratory interface for improved client care.

The National Tuberculosis Health Sector Strategic Plan 2015-2020

Bonsu FA, Hanson-Nortey NN, Afutu FK et al., Eds.: Ghana, Ministry of Health, (2014)

The mandate of the National Tuberculosis Control Programme is to provide leadership and stewardship to accelerate intense and coordinated efforts to reduce the adult TB burden of 290 per 100,000 population recently established in the 2013 National TB Prevalence Survey. Other key challenges are low TB case notification, unacceptably high TB death rates, low antiretroviral therapy (ART) coverage among TB/HIV patients and low drug-resistant notification and treatment.

National Acceleration Plan For Paediatric HIV Services: Ghana 2016 - 2020

United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), (2016)

In 2014, GHS/NACP, with support from UNICEF and other partners, conducted a situation analysis on paediatric HIV care and treatment in Ghana. The purpose of this analysis was to identify the gaps within the current delivery of paediatric HIV care and support system and develop a road map for effective implementation of Early Infant Diagnosis (EID) and to increase paediatric antiretroviral therapy (ART) coverage. The analysis identified gaps such as lack of task shifting on ART services, low paediatric ART coverage, and poor linkage of ART, EID, and PMTCT services with other RCH - immunization and nutrition services.
In view of the findings of the analysis, it was recommended that an Acceleration Plan for Paediatric HIV Services be developed to address the barriers and bottlenecks identified during the assessment. At the current pace of paediatric HIV Services, it can be extrapolated that paediatric ART coverage will increase from 26% to only about 40% by 2020; Ghana will, therefore, fall short of the global target of 90-90-90 (UNAIDS concept).

Improving Estimates of Insecticide-Treated Mosquito Net Coverage from Household Surveys: Using Geographic Coordinates to Account for Endemicity and Seasonality

Burgert, Clara R., Sarah E.K. Bradley, Erin Eckert, and Fred Arnold., (2012)

DHS ANALYTICAL STUDIES 32 - This report examines the possible bias in national estimates of standard Roll Back Malaria (RBM) indicators of insecticide-treated mosquito net (ITN) ownership and use. The analysis uses GPS data for 18 sub-Saharan African countries to correlate these measures with levels of malaria endemicity and seasonality and to recalculate coverage estimates based on the population at risk. The report proposes an approach to identifying populations at risk of malaria that countries could use to produce subnational estimates that account for variations in malaria endemicity or seasonality.
