Rapid risk assessment: Ebola virus disease outbreak in North Kivu and Ituri Provinces, Democratic Republic of the Congo – fourth update

As of 10 April 2019, the Ministry of Health of the Democratic Republic of the Congo has reported 1 206 Ebola virus disease (EVD) cases, including 1 140 confirmed and 66 probable cases, resulting in an overall case fatality of 63%. Eighty-seven healthcare workers are among the confirmed cases, including 31 deaths. Since mid-March, the weekly number of cases has increased to more than 50, ranging from 52–73 cases. Viral circulation in the community is persistent, but the epidemiological situation varies among affected health zones. While the majority of the cases have been reported in urban settings, there are cases in rural health zones surrounding urban centres, suggesting transmission ongoing in these areas.
